Sketchy Basswood Removal

Could you explain the "M" method, and show how to set it up, and the benefits. I saw a diagram in the sheril catalog like that, but was woundering when it would come in handy. looks cool

too tired to give a thorough explanation - but it is helpful on long exposed limb walks where a spill might be imminent or in traversing to another tree/other side of the same tree or just to feel secure while making a precarious cut. make sure that both TIP's can support the increased forces!! if one breaks, you fall along way... if you poke around tree buzz i'm sure there's a thread discussing it in great detail :)

I like the "M" method, but I often just ask a groundie to pass me another climbing line and hitch.

But, Taylor that was good work. Sketchy trees like that keep climbers humble...

Outstanding job Taylor! What caused that co-dom to fail like that? Was it wind and storm related from recent weather out there?

Did you stay tied in to the Basswood for the whole removal, or did you have an adjacent tree next to the play set that you could set a TIP in?

It looks like all the wood had to be rigged out of the Basswood tree too. That must have been a PITA. I'm sure that you had to take smaller than usual pieces too.

Anyway, again excellent job, and by the way you do look an awful lot like Bruce Campbell does in "The Evil Dead" movie and if you have ever seen the movie, you might remember the hard time his girlfriend has with a tree in it. For those of you who have seen the movie, you know what scene I'm talking about!

Not sure how long the tree had been split. However, it was obvious to me that the gap had increased substantially in the last few weeks.

No other trees close enough to tie in to.

Yes, smaller pieces for most of the job.

That was one dangerous tree... I AM sure that 95% of the tree men out there woudl have taken one look and tiptoed out of the backyard... Nice job on the chains and straps, which certainly made the tree a lot safer than it must have felt.. No matter how many straps you put on a tree like that, you are still going to ask yourself "AM I gonna die here?" as you head up into the top.

That doesn;t happen much anymore, but when it does I think about my family and all the people that count on me to be there in their lives. It really sucks as shown by the look on your face at the end of the day.
