Curiosity got to me, so I cut open a few of the larger eyes where the kinks were. Found that the kink was due to the core taper being pulled into the eye/core being cut off to short. Lesson learned.
Struggled on a few attempts to bury the core into the cover (OP 8mm) so I decided to cut open the cover of one I got stuck on. Discovered that I had snagged a few core strands right where I entered the cover (bottom of throat).
Finished up another leash, tight eye to looser eye with OP 8mm and a new lock stitch/whipping technique. Was just doing a standard Yale whiplock. Made one eye larger to so the carabiner would fit in the eye with the snap.

I also think I understand what an invisible lock stitch is now.... sticking the needle back in the hole it just came out of, but at a slight angle so the stitch gets sucked under the cover strands?
