Show off them splices

My first successful double braid spices. Dog leash... I wanted to make one end with a larger eye/handle but I was not able pull the core out far enough to get to mark 3. I reinstalled the core and changed to a tight eye and was barely able to get mark 3 exposed.

Is there a loose rule for how short an eye to eye can be? Guess I could try doing the large eye first.

Will stitch them once I get a sailmakers palm.

Samson Vortex.

Got a few more done. Have a little something wrong with the larger eyes (top), I keep ending up with a kink/bulge just above the
throat.

Kink is on the bottom here

Are you milking/working slack out of the eye before finishing bury the bury?

Whenever you find a solution, write it down so you don't do it again! And while your at it you can write rope measurements you used for different length slings.

Yes, milking the cover from the cross over to the throat, then a tug. Feels like the kink is in the core to me, maybe getting the core twisted a bit.

I will keep at it. Have some more Vortex on the way.

Curiosity got to me, so I cut open a few of the larger eyes where the kinks were. Found that the kink was due to the core taper being pulled into the eye/core being cut off to short. Lesson learned.

Struggled on a few attempts to bury the core into the cover (OP 8mm) so I decided to cut open the cover of one I got stuck on. Discovered that I had snagged a few core strands right where I entered the cover (bottom of throat).

Finished up another leash, tight eye to looser eye with OP 8mm and a new lock stitch/whipping technique. Was just doing a standard Yale whiplock. Made one eye larger to so the carabiner would fit in the eye with the snap.

Got the new whipping idea from this link. Thank you Tommy_B if you are also a member here.

I also think I understand what an invisible lock stitch is now.... sticking the needle back in the hole it just came out of, but at a slight angle so the stitch gets sucked under the cover strands?

I just posted a couple of videos on Youtube that show the methods that I use to splice eye-to-eye prusiks in Beeline prusik cord. Part one shows the splicing part and Part two shows how to do the whiplock. To find them google on Beeline prusik-part 1 and Beeline prusik-part 2.

You're welcome

Made a few Whoopie slings. Only loosely followed instructions/made up the measurements. These 3/4" Tenex-Tec will be used as a tree anchor for a slack line. The small ones are made from NE Dynaglide. Not sure what I will the small ones for, prob just rigging tarps for shade. Used the Dynaglide to lock stitch the Tenex.

A few more leashes from Vortex. Getting better at whipping/stitching and a lot faster.

Still getting that weird kink opposite the bury side on the larger eyes. Starting to think it is normal as I see it in other peoples splices too.
