Show off them splices

This is my 3rd and 4th splice i did months ago. There still going strong. If you fold the rope in half at the point to extract. Then shimmy it back and forth and it loosens the cover a little its hard to explain sorry. But it takes awhile sometimes to get that core out a little at a time. I find a skinny pick works better that something thick to pry it open

Ok, my small disaster pile of All Gear Cherry Bomb resulted in... success! Only had to cut 3' off the rope to eliminate my first blundered attempt. This, too, is a lanyard project for a Petzl Zillon adjuster. Lockstitching, whipping and shrink tubing to follow.

Laugh all you want, splicing guru types... I think it came out beautiful. Not perfect, but lovely just the same.

My biggest mistake the first time around was leaving the orange center core in place, and running out of room trying to bury the core. After looking through this forum, I saw that it can safely be removed through the splice, and that was all I needed to make it work.

What's wrong with that, Jeff? She's a beauty! Like you said stitch, whip, & shrink tube. Done! BTW, did you stagger cut the 3 center strands? All they do is keep the rope round under weight. Some have said that they reduce elongation, I don't think it's by very much!

What measurement did you use for your eye, it looks a bit bigger than a standard tight eye. Can you milk the full length of the rope to tighten it a bit more? Just asking, not critiquing! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I actually made it a little bigger than normal on purpose (@1-1/2"). I figure if I want a tight eye I can band it but I find that the 3/8 deltas are a little tough to get through a true tight eye. Just figured I would change it up a little. If I was going to splice a Zig Zag only rope I would probably actually make it about 6" so the biner would clear the Zigs and just band it in a few places.
