Scoring inaccuracies?

similar scenario at PNW TCC last weekend, either caused when scores were entered or with the computer program itself. Basically a climber had a score entered incorrectly for an event, didn't want to say anything thinking it wouldn't matter anyway, then his girlfriend asked the scorekeeper to double check, and when his score was corrected, he was in the MC and another climber was bumped out. They are buddies and it was tough because both wanted to compete in a big way. Mistakes happen and I think its great how climbers, judges and volunteers are all such great sports at TCC's. Hope I didn't spill the beans on this situation, but everyone was so cool about it and the right thing happened, although the bumped climber would have been fun to watch too.
Bottom line in this one is the computer program causes headaches that lead to data entry errors. What did they do back in the day before computers and ascenders and stuff like that?

When I was in my second quarter college chemistry...way back in '73 :), the prof said that we could only use mechanical calculators, no electronic. That meant slide rules. :)

Having a couple of people do the calculations or double check the data entry could help. This would be an enormous task to take on though. Trying to find enough judges and techs for the comps is rough. Trying to find backups would be even tougher.

Having been on both sides of the TCC , I've seen scoring get screwed up alot . Once they entered real math to all the tree climbing scoring judges, like dividing and adding , whoa , step back . How many years in the seventh grade ? Seriously , if everyone handled a scoring mess up like this guy , how sweet would that be ? When it's all said and done we're still just a bunch of tree climbers . I'm not sure that when I was competing if I would have handled the situation as well as Dan , but today I would . Our Host Mark C. probally got the worst deal ever from a scoring mistake and he handled it like a Champ , so , things happen, just hope it happens to the right person , otherwise it could get ugly.
