Sawpod???

Tom they are brilliant i couldn't recommend them enough. Having the saw easily reachable on your leg is great. I hated having to reach round to put it away when i awqward postions.

The saw slips into the sawpod in it's original scabbard and is held in place by pressure when you do up the leg straps.

All good stuff here :)

I wear my scabbard below the knee and the bottom one supported by the boot (find postings elsewhere-- including the dual scabbard). This looks pretty cool.

I heard a news release that Apple Computer is cracking down on products with the word "pod" tacked on the end. Wouldn't be surprised if this one gets a letter from their lawyers.

Seems like this product may, uh, have 'eM PEGged it 4 sawyers. [geek humor]

Hi Guys,
I know it's a while ago that you were all talking about the Sawpod, but I'm rubbish on the computer! It's my baby and we've decided to sell it to the US via ebay until we can get someone else to stock it! So give it a try and give me some feedback...been teaching at Merrist Wood, Guildford and Sparsholt College UK for nearly 20 years, so probably know a lot of you!

hi tony, glad you made it here at last!! as coincidence has it i just mailed mark chisholm, the owner of this site, a sawpod today!

I have never tried attaching my saw on my leg. I can't imagine the attraction for it either. All I see is one more "branch grabber." Or the limitation to bend the leg fully. Correct me if I am wrong.

doesnt interfere with leg bending at all. the thing i like about it is its always in exactly the same place where a scabbard on your saddle with often ride around a little.
its defeintly worth giving it a try before you dont like it IMO.
i also tend to find i lose my saw less in the leg scabbard. doesnt get flipped upside down like it can on your belt

After getting one of the original prototypes for the B'ham leg scabbard that Mark thought up I was convinced. My handsaw never made it back to my harness. Somewhere along the line I moved the scabbard to my knee. That's where it's stayed for all time.

the Silky scabbard is nice and clean. The upper elastic strap on my scabbard is a bit tight to keep it in position above my knee. The lower one is just a little looser to allow my knee to articulate. I never notice any kind of restriction.

I looked at Laz's Sawpod when I was over there in January. It is a real nice tool!

I just recieved mine today. Compared to the buckingham one, I fell it is like night and day. More light weight as well as extremely comfortable. Those wide strechy straps are great. Only question I have is how well does that fabric hold up.

Guys,
The idea is to make your life easier in a tree! The "Sawpod" does catch occassionally on branches - as it does on your harness, but you never end up sitting on it!
If you think about it, when you're in the tree you need to put the saw away as quickly as poss, if you're holding on with your "butt cheeks", holding a branch trying to stick your saw into a scabbard that's swinging about somewhere behind you it's a pain!! With the SAWPOD wherever your leg is in the tree you can reach it so the saw is back in it's scabbard in seconds!
As to how durable it is? I've had my original prototype for 2 years now -it's been up trees, in the back of my truck, soaked through, covered in sawdust and I still haven't been tempted to grab another! Yes, if you put the blade accross the elastic straps they will cut, the neoprene is cut resistant to a point...it's just like the rest of our kit - the advatages far outway all these points, go on try one, you won't be dissappointed! If you checkout the website www.sawpod.co.uk you'll see how in 18 months word has spread!
Thanks for all your support Steve, be intering to see what Mark makes of it!

Ah ha!

Good to see you here Tony!

I like the sawpod just below the knee. Works well, with the elastic velcro and neoprene making the tension adjustable to your own sweet spot. The best thing is down there, it doesn't hook up the chainsaw lanyard behind the saw handle.

It gets chucked in with the other gear in the bag, and I expected it to show alot of wear, but it hasn't at all.

Having a clip point on the leg strap of TreeFlex though, I only need a lower strap version - shame to cut mine up!

So, who wants to hear some good stories about Darbs...? Errr.....best not - Thinking about it, the returning boot could be much heavier : )

And you'll be glad to know we've managed to sell some Sawpods on US ebay!!!!!! And if anyone wants some stories about Paolo...(see you at Merrist Wood Climbing Comps, mate?)

I sometimes get a 'sore pod' from my leg loops when trying to reach said'sawpod' when my legs are further than my hips stretched out on a limb, whilst pruning!! It definately has its applications but your hip on average is always closer than your knee?!? True?
