Mark. If you wanted to get national coverage of you and your business for the sake of representing all of us well, then please do it. You got my support.

It is excellent to see not one buzzer even mildly in favor of these shows. I have been in business less than two years and had to shut the tv off because it made my stomach turn. Mr. Barnett it the nail right on the head.

This show was shown on a local Tulsa station all last winter! I couldn't believe my eyes the other night when i saw it on a national station. From personnal experience I can tell you that Paul Nosak is an arrogant, unprofessional jerk off!

We can only hope that ISA/TCIA use some of there power to shut this operation down! They could spin this whole thing to promote professionalism.

I am from Tulsa and the guy is a complete jerk!!! He tips cranes onto houses, his dog has jumped out of his truck and killed a homeowners cat right in front of her, He carries automatic weapons loaded in his trucks and once a flashbang went off and severely burned a person's leg, and the list goes on. He is a legend in his own mind, and he severely overloads the crane on a regular basis. But my main problem with him is how horribly he treats and/or talks to his staff. Everytime I have seen his crew he is yelling and cussing at them and many times it is at jobsites they are at and you can hear it 2 or 3 blocks away. I dont know how he hasnt gotten in trouble before for his work and actions. I hate it because people lump all of us together with guys like him and that is not how I behave or conduct myself at all, nor do any of my employees act like him. It sucks and it pisses me off to even think about it.

OSHA has been notified from within the arbo industry.

After watching American Chopper off and on for a few seasons I rarely saw very good eye protection on the Tuttle crew. As high profile as that show was I have to believe that they came into OSHA's vision.

However, I can barely drive a bobcat in a straight line, much less do a wheelie right past fancy cars with a log 10 feet off the ground.

Be thankful that 'Saw for Hire' will never be broadcast outside America. The reason is simple.

Axemen, Ice Road Truckers amd Trawlermen(the fishing one) have all been broadcast in Europe and recieved reasonably good viewing figures.

This in part is down to the fact that most of the characters seem like genuinly decent people trying to make a living in adverse conditions, something which many people around the world can identify with. They are also pretty interesting to watch and can be entertaining at times with the interaction between to various characters on the shows.

'Saw for Hire' would never translate to a European audience because Nosak is just 'too American'. He exhibits the worse traits of what people around the world think American people are like - arrogant, loud, obnoxious, obese and ignorant.

His personality would go down like a lead balloon. If broadcast in the UK 'Saw for Hire' would recieve the lowest viewing figures in the history of television.

Just to follow up about the letter I sent to TLC...

The first response basically said they get too many comments to process and don't expect anything else.
The next day I received this email.

""Dear Viewer:

Thank you for contacting Discovery Channel. We appreciate your
correspondence and for taking the time to share your thoughts and concerns
with us about Saw For Hire.

In an effort to ensure the highest quality programming, comments such as
these are taken very seriously. Each and every comment is forwarded on to
our programming executives for review and consideration. Maintaining the
integrity of all of our networks is our primary goal. It is these types of
comments that contribute to creating change and improving our programming.

Again, thank you for contacting Discovery Channel.

Sincerely,

Viewer Relations
Discovery Channel""

So who knows if it will get forwarded to the next person or if it was intended to shut me up. At least I got through the first round of discarded comments.
I agree in some cases, any attention is taken as good attention. And networks breathe ratings and dollar figures.
But my opinion is my opinion, and somebody read it.

With any luck we will draw OSHA's attention to our industry four or five fold! Hopefully more, eh?

I've been through a voluntary OSHA inspection. I signed up for it at a chain saw course I took. It was quite educational to say the least. Their biggest concern was the type of gas can we used to fill the saws.

The guys they sent out knew next to nothing about our industry. Didn't know a bull rope from a climbing rope!

We want increased attention from these guys?
I don't think SO!

All good tree people know Nosak is a joke. All of this bringing him to OSHA's attention is nothing but shooting ourselves in the foot!

The good news about OSHA being brought into this is that they will focus on what they do know. Bobcats, cranes, etc... not the issue with what they don't know. OSHA will not turn it's inspectors loose on tree service co's. They just go after the easier stationary targets or hopefully those that provide them with the evidence of their transgressions.

That's a good point. I hope it doesn't cross over to Europe. I wouldn't want anymore false stereo typing of us over there...
