Check out this guy who says water knots creep a little bit in each loading cycle. .0035 inches per load cycle in his experiment.

I keep hearing from all kind of different sources that with a water knot its important to leave long tails and then check them. i've never really used the beer knot, but it seems like it woould be hard to visually inspect it?

visually, yes. But you can easily feel the end of the webbing inside. I just didn't bother.
