I used to "sell" really hard. I got a kick out of it. Now things have changed.
A buddy of mine runs

I used to look at his over-the-top customer service with a critical eye. He is the nicest guy and goes way out of his way to talk to all his clients personally. He does a really good job and takes care of his clients regardless of how much money he is making off of them.
These days, my approach is similar. I try to help my client as much as possible. Even if I don't make a sale. Forget about "the sale".
Use your knowledge to get them good advice. If you don't have any, go learn and maybe get certified.
This approach is a completely different mindset.
I have found this approach to be better in many ways.
1. Its really easy to land jobs when you don't care about making the sale.
2. When GENUINELY you try to help them first, they sense it. This builds trust. When they trust you, they tend to want to hire you.
I've landed tons of jobs just because I don't care if I did or not.
The best part? If you really don't care, then if you don't land it, you're not stressed.
Best advise... go learn and then offer quality advise regardless of if it benefits you financially.
