RopeTek Sidewinder - Retractable Lanyard System

Nice job guys!

When you make a heavy duty one that can spool a 16 foot wire cored rope tail let me know!

Way too light duty for me. But the principle behind the idea is great.

I takes a heckuva lotta spring pressure to do it right!

My unit is a prototype. Ropetek is working out a mounting but, for my saddle, and my situation the zip tie worked best for me, so I modified it a bit and added the HD zip tie.

Ultimately how it mounts will be up to RopeTek and eventually the users.

This is a great idea. I like the cinch on it because it becomes a fully workable SRT line. I'll third that. If you need more testers in different configurations I'd be more than happy to give it a whirl.

Jman, I love the CInch as a lanyard adjuster

Rickytree, My unit has 13' of 10mm beeline.

Jimmy, Trango lists the Cinch as a 'belya device for use in rock climbing' and nothing else. The major arbo retailers (Sherill, WesSpur, Treestuff, etc) have been selling the cinch alone, and in kits as a lanyard adjuster for some time now, regardless what the instructions say. Feel free to check for yourself @ http://www.trango.com/belay_rappel/Cinch click instructions and download the PDF.

Re: RopeTek Sidewinder - Retractable Lanyard Syste

definitely a great idea on paper, cant wait to hear what people say bout it on the job. have had some frustrating climbs (only in real hairy tupelos) where every loop on hanging on me was getting ssnagged. i work with some older guys who are always dogging me on liking a longer lanyard, i can only imagine the looks if i was sporting one of those.
gotta love watching all these tools other arborists create with end up becoming a manufactured products. Stay creative!

Even when it only would last a year, it's a clutter free year.
I don't think the big tie wrap is such a bad idea either. You put it on your harness only once and it can stay there. Most modern harnesses don't have belts that you can slide trough something anyway.
