Ropes for footlocking

They say that small diameter ropes with low stretch are the way to go like the snake bite line. I prefer larger diameter rope because I don't always pinch down tight enough with my boot and I'll creep down a bit (this is with my velocity line). I like using half inch line so if I don't lock my boots in all the way I won't creep because I've got a lot more fabric under my boot.

Pi line is pretty good. I use that as well. Boots traps the rope well and my hitch cord reacts well to it both while footlocking and while under tension

I use, New England Satic-Pro. I'm pretty sure here is a link.

Static-Pro

I have it in the 7/16, it also runs well with ascenders if you would like to use it as a SRT line as well.

If your looking for a climbing line that will work well as a footlocking rope as well, i would say PI or Tachyon.

Good luck

I like the fly personally. But would like to try some 1/2in static line. I have KMIII and seems way to small for me.

Poison Ivy for everyday use but if I wanted 1/2" it would be Hi-Vee. I like Velocity better than PI for footlocking but only slightly and I like PI better for everything else.

I want a fope that doesnt stretch to much or at all. What do most people use for footlocking at competition?

Now your asking people to divulge their top secret lines with you! I use New England KMIII personally.

I prefer velocity, low stretch, high wax content(helps with grip, hands and feet), and it has a looser braid which also aids grip. The static lines all have a tighter braid which resists bending around the feet. The only drawback I see with velocity is the wax makes sliding your safety up the rope harder. Try as many ropes as you can and use what works best for you.

Static Pro will be my footlocking line in competition this year. It has less than 1% stretch. There might be better out there but not by much.

I posted a link in my post able if you are interested.

7/16th, It Runs great with ascenders but thick enough that you can grab a good lock when footlocking. Truely one of my better purchases. I have to give credit to Mark though, he showed it to us at the Advanced Climbing and Rigging Class at Morris Arboretum. I found that it was a reasonable price as well. I'm cheap and i would make that purchase again in a heartbeat. Well worth the money.

I prefer 11mm KMIII for footlocking. As a low-stretch kernmantle it has enough give to absorb some energy. It stays relatively firm which helps the rope fall away from your feet when you release to take the next lock. Arborist climbing lines all have a bit more tendency to stay wrapped around your foot upon the release.

Last year at the Penn-Del East Comp. they used Snakebite. That event goes so quick I don't even have an opinion on the rope.

I recently got some snakebite and really like it, for double line or single line. Jammin Mayer got me going about a month back on a single line ascension system and this stuff is awesome for that, Or double for that matter. Only issue I had with it was that it was very slick at first and hard to grip. I washed it 3 or four times in a row, and the problem was immediately solved. The great thing about the line being so static is that all of your energy is being used to advance, not much bounce taking your momentum away.
