Rope Wrench Setup, Zero Drop

Oceans is to throwline what what that guy at the fair is to balloons.

"You wanna puppy? Here ya go. You wanna hat? Here ya go. And for you little girl? A bazooka? Coming right up."
Dude. I'm still laughing. Where do you come up with all this kind of stuff?! Too much man. Too much. Still laughing!

Better than "K"rafty! Thanks, TTF. It's funny that 3" of twine can be a game changer for me. I hope it's a little something that can help out a lot of others somehow. Everything is so much easier on the ground than 70' up with a breeze on.
No thank you , you've given me yet another reason to get back on the wrench!

Nice Whipple. What'd ya do, whip it?
Thanks, Will. Yup, it's a whip. It took a pair of pliers to run it home. All the leather was ripped, worn, and peeling right off, leaving a mess of adhesive and what not. I couldn't let the wheel slide through my hand one more time, so I ripped it all off, rubbed it down with alcohol and whipped it up.

I still have a few feet of throwline left. Not quite sure yet what I'll do with it, but something will arise. Always does.

Damn Eric, I just thought it was one of those Treestuff spidey head things wrapped around their. Nice job on the whipping, very cool.

Nice job! I'd expect nothing else from a "Whip"ple? :)
Imagine if you did the whole steering wheel in 2 runs. You probably would've popped the line trying to run it home with the pliers. Were the top and bottom each done with a single run?

It seems like the wrench is coming back in style. I've been missing mine, just been trying to find a way to get around my addiction to the easy on and off of the mechanical's. This seems very promising and I'm excited, now I really need a day off to dial in one of these setups. Thanks for sharing Eric.

The bottom went fine on the first attempt. The top took three. :(

First, I got halfway through the wrap and found out the bight would be 1/4" too short to catch the tail and suck it in. I had to unwind it and add a few inches and start over. Second attempt, I had wrapped it too tight and sheared the throw line. Third try worked out perfect.

It's actually a really nice feeling on the hands. Lots of gription with little pressure.

I hear ya loud and clear about the mechanicals. Once you set it up and train yourself into a routine it gets real quick. I'm stoked to get back on my Wrench. Rain on Tuesday, high gusts today...tomorrow's the day. :)

I can't tell you how many thing I thought of wrapping around that thing. I've never been real fan of those store bought wheel covers, and couldn't see myself stitching new leather on. I got the idea to whip it while driving home one afternoon. I got so stoked to run the whip I couldn't stand it. I turned around and went back to my shop to get my splicing kit.

Would it be worthwhile to have a gate and roller at the tether end of the Wrench, in order to clip the top end of the wrench to the working line, thereby holding the wrench in an "off" position with the top of the wrench up against the climbing line for DdRT?

I think that would make the Wrench "Life Support" which I don't remember if it is rated at. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm trying to envision your thought Gordon.

my take on what Gordon was saying was using something to keep the wrench in an upright position while it is not engaged and you are climbing double rope.

I think I see what you mean Gordon. If there was some way to keep the wrench on the rope for DdRT but it would stay disengaged (head pointing down). That would make for an easy transition between techniques. Do y'all find yourself switching between techniques (SRT and DdRT) often?
