Rope Wrench - Hitch/Rope compendium.

Lots to go through here. Wondering if anyone can make a suggestion for the 1/2” Yale XTC fire climbing rope. Used my typical VT today and it was good but i feel like it could be improved on. today was my first time climbing SRT so it may have been a combination of things.

Edit: my hit cord is a 8mm 30” rope logic oceans eye to eye

For me, 8mm was too small on 1/2” 16 strand anything, especially that XTC fire. I think I was on maybe a 10mm(?) also maybe try a different hitch configuration. I also wasn’t doing any SRT on 1/2” 16 strand….

Yeah it’s kind of the set up I got for now from work. Getting stuff can sometimes take a long time, and I’m going into PHC season so my climbing becomes more sparse. Hoping to work with what I got.

I have a zig zag, but not really approved at work by the safety cabal (joke of course).

I just used a VT for the first time yesterday and it performed flawlessly. So far it is the best Rope Wrench experience I've had. Grabbed reliably, released easily. The combo was:
KMIII Max/25" 9.3mm Epicord sewn eye to eye.

What’s the length of your E2E? Guessing 28” ;-)
Actually 25", measured between centers of eyes. It's homemade and it was intended to be used as a Michoacan but wasn't reliably grabbing in that configuration. Probably just not worn in yet or maybe not the right hitch/rope combo, but this worked a treat. I think it would be considered a 3 over 3 VT.

VT’s are GREAT with a cord like Epicord and a short E2E

That's cool I haven't seen that. Think it would work with one of those micro dmm biners? Shorten things up a bit.
At 8 1/4“ inches, including the perfecto carabiner, it is one of the shortest wrench tethers available. The only shorter one that I am aware of is their caralink v1, but I didn’t care for it functionally. The carabiner was a royal pain in the ass to get open when taking the wrench on or off the pulley, and the tether was so short that even my very compact Michoacán would hit the wrench.

You could also run it on the center hole of the hitch climber pulley which would shorten the setup by an inch or so, but you would be sacrificing a killer tending point.

You can always call in to us we can see about making a shorter one for you. Mind you, because of how it is made we could only do about 1" smaller on the top total. But if anyone wants a custom made one don't be afraid to contact us at Arbsession and ask.

Have you tried the ISC Apex? I just got one after hanging with @islandarb and fell it may be a nice addition.

I have tried the Apex but haven’t purchased one yet. I know Paul loves the Apex and that’s all the recommendation I need because the man has a very discerning palate when it comes to tree gear, and he has never steered me wrong.

Exactly why I purchased one. Seems a mix between the wrench a d a chicane, with the added feature of adjustability of friction. Haven't tried it yet but am going to next chance I get.

I'm using ISC Apex with the ISC Squirrel Flex Tether - have several climbs on it. Using setting #2 on Samson Hyperclimb with a 28" Ocean prusik. I'm 250# loaded with gear and it's smooth as butter. But - this is my first SRS rig - so I don't have anything to compare it to, so I can't weigh in on if it's great or not. It's working for me, though, and I like it.

Also tried it with a 30" Bailout XL 9mm that worked well, but 28" seems to be good length depending on your prusik knot.
