Rope Swing connection to trees

Has anyone seen a good way to connect a rope swing to a tree that will not damage the tree over time?

Thanks in advance!

On one swing I installed I bought some short rigging slings like:

To keep the sling centered and not have it walk along the branch I did a double wrap. Then I used a screw pin shackle to attach both eyes together. I used a few drops of Lock Tite on the thread and then added a second nut on the outside for super security.

Be sure to allow for growth. Also, you want the legs of the eye coming together at a narrow, more vertical angle, to reduce the load on the shackle.

Hopefully this isnt a derail: I never quite understood how a sling is twice as strong in the basket configuration as it is in the straight vertical configuration. I get that in the basket, the two eyes and the legs under them are good for the full vertical straight capacity, but at the bottom of the "U", the bottom of the basket, how is it that they are good for double the straight cap.?

If the wire rope itself is rated at 1600 lbs as in the chart in Tom's attachment, the wire rope at the bottom of the "U" is getting 3200 lbs of load, on 1600 lb wire rope??

Protect both the rope and the bark with a conduit sleeve wrapped around twice. That is over the limb once; then back over it again. I use a bowline with two loops instead of one and of course a Yosemite tie-off.

What I like about this is that there is zero motion anywhere around the circumference of the limb. As the swing pendulums forward the closer leg slacks as the farther leg rotates, then when as the swing goes away from you the farther legs slacks.

I find myself watching it transfixed just like watching those six desktop swings ball bearings click-clack back and forth. The result is the cambium is protected around its entire circumference and the squirrel’s loose teeth if they try to bite the sleeve.
