Rope questions…

@LBF let me know if you want to pick up a rope wrench one of the guys who works with me is wanting to switch to a rrp instead. It's the rope wrench with the fusion tether he'll probably throw in a stiched hitch cord for it as well.
I’ll have to think on this. I got the Prussic cords and a hitch climber pulley thinking mostly that it could be a backup for the Akimbo that I have. I like having options instead of being tied to one specific thing because things often can and do go wrong. A rope wrench was actually my plan until I came across a deal on the Akimbo after I saw how much the Akimbo and RRP cost. Since I really wanted one of those and the rope wrench was just a more cost effective plan for a more casual climber that wanted good gear, I had trouble passing up nearly $100 off an Akimbo. Maybe shoot me a PM with what he wants for it and I’ll think on it and see if I can scare up a few extra bucks and we can go from there?

I couldn't help being curious about this comment. Are you coiling your ropes? One of the first things I learned when I started climbing was that just flaking rope into a bag or bucket is a real time saver. I've found discarded cat litter buckets are the lightest, best size, and have the most comfortable handle.
Bags and buckets are a rather recent addition to the gear cache Winch. For years I coiled my ropes. 3 strand was a particular Bitch to coil sometimes. I now have about a dozen or so bags with ropes and other gear. I also have several cat litter buckets with gear stashed in them too. My original Porta Wrap and its Whoopie sling rides in one of those.

Synergy X, Oval VT, and the Sticht hitches can be used alone to descend on a stationary rope. All release easily with a controlled descent.

So for anyone curious as to what I ended up with, I picked up 150’ of the Sterling Scion 12.5mm. Haven’t used it yet, but judging from the shorter piece of it I have and having climbed a couple times SRT and DRT once on it, I should be pretty happy with it. Probably going to get a second line at some point and I may try something else for that. Still have to experiment with some of the Prussic hitches on it, so far I’ve just used the Akimbo.

Bags work great, I keep my climb lines in bags.
Birds nest coil is also quite awesome, I use it for rigging lines.
Basically start with a normal coil, 2 or 3 passes, then daisy chain the entire rest of the rope around the initial coil, and around itself. Its somewhat time consuming to put away, but it deploys super easy, easy to pack around, and is quite tidy in the truck .
I learned about this coil from the rap Attack, they use it to deploy their rappel line from the helicopter.
