Robert Reich 2.5 minute primer for all republicans

Riddle me this, how do republicans get elected with the rich being such a minority? If one doesn't have heeps of money why would one want to have someone with money to rule over you?

I dont see much in either party. We need to revamp the political party system and get rid lobbyists i.e. legalized bribery. Did anyone watch the Third Party debate with Larry King. Pretty good.

It's funny how nobody complains about the rich Hollywood liberals who make millions to play an instrument or act in a movie. Or those who make millions throwing a ball, driving a car, and the like. But let someone get rich by actually creating jobs and owning a company, and they're evil.

You don't get it do you Eric?

None of those rich Hollywood liberals you're so contemptuous of are whining like pathetic little spoiled children about their taxes being raised to the same rates they gladly paid during the Clinton era.

Only the greedy little conservative psychos in the tea party do that my friend.

Apparently, at least one of those Hollywood Liberals isn't whining... because he isn't paying up, anyways.

I gather neither you or Jeff have any belief in the age old ethics and morals standard of Noblesse Oblige Eric?

Something to the effect that those blessed with good fortune, are obliged to be generous, in order not to be seen as greedy curs or cads, interested only in indulging themselves?

Your passionate concern and stalwart defense of millionaires and billionaires in order to stick it to the poor and elderly is very touching guys, in a reptilian sort of way.

So is your persistent misspelling of my name, which appears quite visible in my signature line on every single post.

In my experience, quite a bit of the "poor" aren't so because of an income problem. Rather, they have an outgo problem.

I see no reason I shouldn't be able to keep what I earn, let you keep what you earn, and let those who earn nothing be motivated to take care of themselves. Forced charity through taxation is morally meaningless, and it's been proven the government is a persistent failure at doing so with any efficiency, anyways.

Mind you, I have no issue with seeing folks get help who have come upon temporary hard times (or those either born or who become disabled, and simply can't); we've surely all been there to some extent at some point in our lives, and there's no shame in it. But the present system breeds generations of abusers of the public charity to the extent that groups of people have forgotten how to earn their own way and reward. We constantly level the playing field by lowering the bar, not raising it.

We spend more tax dollars now than ever on government programs to fight poverty, yet it exists in record levels. Right now nearly half of all Americans are on food stamps. Of course, if we simply took those same tax dollars and sent a check... We could send every single man, woman, and child about $20,000. Again... Government efficiency at work.

And then there's "social security", that government-enforced pyramid scheme which is nothing more than forcing one to be charitable to ones' self. We force away money from those without the wherewithal to make their own plans for retirement care and income, and include as punishment those who could put the money into far better investment options of their own choosing.

The left constantly whines about the rich paying their fair share, yet forgets about the quid-pro-quo. I paid a little over $23,000 last year in federal income tax- fully 7 times the average person. Did I get 7X more police protection? Fire services? Do I get exclusive access to 7X more roads than someone who paid no taxes at all? I certainly don't get to cast seven votes in elections instead of just one. Why should you get to decide I've made enough money and should be punished through taxation for my success? Why not punish you through taxation for failure?

No, jomoco- you will never understand the conservative mindset, because you believe too much in having your cake and eating mine, too.

I see. So all the millions of American mfg jobs that have been outsourced to foreign cheap labor markets, leaving millions of Americans out of work here at home, legally, is not THE problem?

It's perfectly understandable that today's tea partiers have no problem exploiting communist slave labor pools to enrich themselves despite the hypocrisy in swallowing your principles, morals and ethics by enriching yourselves off a communist govt, with forced abortion laws and a human rights record on par with medieval times?

Then you have the unmitigated gall to call yourselves good Christians?

Your twisted bizarre sense of patriotism is pathetic.

You guys scream bloody murder bout commies and socialists on the one hand, as you empower them to enrich yourselves by screwing over your fellow American citizens on the other!

What won't you do to put a few more bucks in your wallets?

Impale young girl babies on your swords of greed?

The tea party has the morals and ethics of a snake.

Now wonder why it's on their pathetic flag?

Ah... Switching lanes again, I see.

Speak for yourself; I'm a firm believer in buying American whenever possible- an opinion shared by every single "tea partier" I have met yet. As I've said before... Much to YOUR dismay and argument... The American consumer is as much responsible for manufacturing job losses to China as anyone. We as a society want to live like kings at pauper prices. Stop buying foreign goods, and manufacturers would be forced to begin domestic production again. There is as much greed in the lower class as the upper. Are you finally admitting I'm right on this?

By the way... it's pitiful you can't debate without resorting to an attitude of hate and disrespect. Doubly so, considering your accusation of the Tea Party of being some type of hate group.

I am continually baffled by people who are so 100 percent certain in there political beliefs. I see those that are so convinced on one side or the other as lacking in an ability to think analytically. Our political system is deeply flawed on both sides of the aisle. Misinformation is spread as news and the press for the most part lacks a spine to do any real reporting anymore. The news is controlled by big business and thus the people. Our government is controlled by legalized bribery IE lobbyists.
I am also baffled by the definition of liberal and conservative. Why the anti intelectual bent? Climate change is real folks. Are we the only country in the developed world that actually has evolution doubters in elected positions? That terrifies me! What is conservative about exploiting our natural resources? why the hate and vitriol for proponents of renewable energy? On the liberal side we also have unrealistic expectations of what is achievable. The bleeding heart mentality and unwillingness to compromise is equally problematic. In a way our greatest faults as humans is our ability to comprehend our existence.
Is corruption inevitable in any form of government?

One political movement that I see hope in was the progressive wing of the Republican party in the early 1900s. They advocated for conservation, and an end to corrupt government

"To destroy this invisible government, to dissolve the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of the day." from progressive party platform of 1912,

stills rings true to this day. alas imagine a political candidate opting for ending the ties of big business and government, advocating for conservation, and for fiscal conservatism.

until then i will not ally myself with any political movement.

I've been called anti-environmental many times for my position against CFL's. In reality, when you consider ALL of the factors surrounding their use, you find they're a disaster.

I like alternative energy ideas, but many simply aren't going to be practical enough no matter how much we put the nation in debt sinking money into. Wind and hydro are our best bets presently, because they produce mechanical motion which can be directly used to drive alternators to produce grid-usable alternating current. Solar is one of the worst options for so many reasons, yet it seems most of the stimulus money went there.

I don't know anyone personally who doesn't believe in evolution, but I am aware they exist. Hey... Whatever floats their boat.

It's amusing to be attacked and called a "neo-con Tea Partier". While I admit I'm a conservative, and believe in many of the same things the TP does... I'm not a member of any party. I vote roughly 40/40/20 Republican/Democrat/Indepentant, depending on the candidate and their position on issues.

Yes, I am 100% certain in my beliefs... Unless I'm expressing an opinion.

Our decline started when the dems caved into the reps and signed NAFTA into law.

Then to add insult to injury, the dems caved again allowing China into the WTO.

The essence of the whole problem is that the dems are no longer the party of American laborers. They've bought into this poisonous neocon BS lock stock and barrel, making them traitorous neocon enablers stabbing their traditional constituents in the back.

The reps have always been the party of big business traditionally. So their wanting to drive a stake through the heart of American labor unions is nothing new. It's a wet dream come true for them

But Clinton and Obama buying into these poisonous rep FTA's is a betrayal of huge proportions that has no precedent prior NAFTA being stuffed down our throats by these treasonous "democrats".

The MSM is complicit in this betrayal as well. No reporting was done on the new European or Russian FTA's as they moved successfully through the lower house in the past week.

These very FTA's that are bleeding this country white are not going to stop until the Democratic Party finds its backbone and starts acting on behalf of their constituents again, instead of joining ranks with the republican neocons.

Just read Jean Paul Sartre's play, 'No Exit' the other day.

The line "Hell is other people" comes to mind.

If I were God....you two would be handcuffed together.
