I've done some consulting for a city lately. One little thing he'd wanted was something that I figured was a grey area for chemical control.
There's an area in a local park he wants to turn into more of a beach. It's along a river which floods every spring. It used to have tons of volunteer trees, which they cleared out this year. There's a fine line of creating more erosion risk and the ability to make a nice swimming/fishing area.
I suggested just using mechanical maintenance (masticator or tiller) but he said they lack the manpower do do it more than once a year. There are a few small trees he's singled out as wanting to keep to allow some shore stability and to become shade trees in the future. That pretty well eliminates anything like Garlon as the trees all spread through their roots.
I'm wondering about legal issues of shoreline manipulation in the area (despite it being for the city), how to go about determining chemical controls, and what experience some of y'all have had in this sort of thing.
Thank you!
