retrieving a rope guide gently

How do you retrieve a rope guide from the tree with the tail of your climbing line over a branch, halfway between you and the TIP?

I've seen it done and then went to try it out and can't figure it out.

Thanks,

Russell.

I am confused by what you mean the tail of your line...because really you should just retrieve it the same way as if you are on the ground

I think you are meaning retrieving it without having it just fall freely to the ground... I think, if that is the case just attach the throw line to the end of the climbing line. When it reaches the friction saver keep ahold of climbing line and throw line, this will allow you to control it all down to the ground. Hope that is what you are looking for.

That won't work on a rope guide though.

I think what the guy means is after is this....

When on your way down, pull up the end of you climbign line and attach a krab to it. Flick it over a branch and back to you and clip it to your climbing rope just above your friction hitch. Then continue down the tree. Remove rope guide in usual manner but this time it will only fall as far as the branch you used. Then you can lower it down the rest of the way.
