Retrievable ponytail-single/double

Pierce, a TB lurker, put his head to finding a way to float a redirect and have it retrievable too.

He and I are going to teach a climbing class tomorrow so we're in the motel doing what any tree-geek would be doing...laying out climbing gear and figgerin'!

Let me describe what Pierce came up with.Retrievable ponytail CR.webp

In the pic the rope is tied off on the upper left. That could be choked or a PSP of some kind.

The climber has worked to the right towards the chair where there is a solid union for a redi.

The purple redi is setup and rigged as a ponytail. If the sling is long enough the redi could be a ways back to the left from the chair redi.

The red ponytail redi is attached and positioned mid-span to put the climber in the ideal location. A polesaw hook or a branch could be used to slide the red redi back out.

The climber is attached down below the red redi where the salsa container is sitting.

Be sure to keep control of the tail of the rope which is over there on the right. If not, its going to be a challenge to clear the ponytails later.

This is going to require some good rope management to keep from crossing the rope and building friction back into the setup.

Once the work is completed over on the right and below the chair redi both ponytails can be cleared remotely. Of course the two slings are going to be hanging from the climbing rope up above. In some setups the rope might swing down enough to be able to clear them. If not, just pay attention to the rest of the route down and out of the tree. If the climber doesn't keep track of the ropes/slings there is a good chance that a snarl is going to happen.

Is this new?
Has anyone else been using something like this?

Either way, I'm enjoying the heck out of the possibilities for setting up redi's which puts the climber in the exact place they need to be and keeps the rope more vertical.

Time for dinner and a beer...we worked hard figgerin' this out!

Does the salsa have to be chunky? Could of one even go as far as using Salsa verde? In all seriousness, looks like a sweet setup

So far, I like the minimal gear required. I want to look further into practical applications, though it seems like a way to bolster structure even further. Tom, let's catch up on this at TCI.

What class am I missing now?

Pony tail good idea, although I do not enjoy adding friction to the tail like when setting up a 3:1 for a limbwalk. Given the right scenario it could have a real practical application. Looks like one could also forego the purple sling and just redirect in the chairs natural crotch.
