I plucked a Persian long hair out of a big willow oak today that had been there for 26 days. This is the third time I've gotten this particular cat out of this particular tree. The owners decided to wait the cat out this time and they gave after 25 days and called me.

Thing is, this cat was well groomed and seemed perfectly healthy when I got to it and was easy as ever to bag. There were some small pockets of water in some crotches and at least three scats.

The longest I've heard of a cat staying in a tree is 21 days. I got one down once that had been missing for 17 and it was weak and clearly fading. It died a few days later.

So the question is... is the cat coming down when nodody's looking to feed? What's the longevity of an exposed cat with access to only a small amount of water. Temps here have been mid 90's and no rain for weeks until Saturday.

I don't think a cat can survive that long without food.

And since it's a Persian, I would say that it is messing with it's owners, and probably peeing on anything nice of theirs outside.

Maybe it wants to go to Blinky's place and ride the garage door!

I've rescued a cat that's been up 11 days and that poor little guy didn't move a muscle the whole time- but after 2 minutes of being on the ground and getting some water he seemed to be 100%.

I'm thinking it just chilled up the tree the whole time.

Why did the owners wait 25 days??? I would never wait that long if it was my cat. How was the cat in such good condition after that long? Something just isn't right with this one. Blinky, I think the owners have the hots for you and the cat is an unwilling participant in their scheme to spend more time with you.

Blinky, have they asked for a "Frequent use" Discount?

Hmmm I have heard of starving artists, possibly this is the same thing, except it is for "Starving Arborists", where some well intentioned lonely lady needs a hours worth of company!

The tree is right out their kitchen window so they just kinda checked it each AM and tried to wait it out. They did ask for a buy five, get one free card. I just knocked $50 off... It's a long drive.

I'm pretty sure it's been up there for the full 26 days. From what I've learned lately, cats don't perspire and can live a long time without water, there was some in the tree plus it was noted elsewhere that dew would form on it's coat and then it could groom and drink at the same time. They can definitely live a long time without food because they're felines and they evolved that way. It's also possible she found some fledgling birds, it's that time of year and the tree had several nests.

What I'm wondering now is... is this a record? I've still not found an account of more than 21 days in a tree.

This is her...

I did one the other NIGHT (it was a miracle that I got my line in the tree), and the poor little cat peed on me when I grabbed her. She was up there for three days... A calico with no tail (I forgot the proper name).

Actually, Calicos & Tortoise shells are not my favorite breed. They tend to be either remarkably stupid or they have an attitude.

The one that I saved had a nice demeanor, though. Maybe the Manxes are different. They are definitely smaller than regular Calicos.
