REALLY?

Yep that about sums it up right there. I do it, you do it. Some of us more often then we should. Teach the green horns to never one hand by telling them "do as I say, not as I do." I look at it like this, it's really a game of statistics. If both of my hands are on the saw then cutting one of them is statisically improbable. On the other hand the more often I run the saw one handed the odds are increasingly stacking up against me.

One hand on the tree to apply some pressure to aid levering the saw through the cut is a welcome relief.
In terms of training.
Newbees get a hand saw and move up to 260 for limbing. I teach my guys how to one hand and let them if the feel confident. Hovering over a saw with two hands inhaling toxins is stupid especially when one hand can move them a fair distance away. Especially during simple bucking. It's by the hand and baby steps when working with me. Proud to say there has never been a chainsaw injury here
I do all my own climbing and the majority of the cutting.
If a climber came along and wanted to one hand it will be easy to guage level of competence with several questions. Either they guess or know .
Like I said before you have to walk before you run on the ground then up into a tree requires another skill set before one handn.
Sorry for my poor grammar etc. Never enough time and type almost exclusively on my phone.
"Practice does not make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect" I concede one handing is a very bad habit. So if you do be extremely careful. Practice when you can because there will come a time when it may remove you from danger. Knock on wood!

"I concede one handing is a very bad habit." Listen , there are many bad habits inn tree work and life . We all deal with them . One handing a chainsaw on the ground is , stupid , careless and is just plain dumb. Climbing in a tree or a bucket truck , it is a skill . If you don't know how to do it properly you are untrained , you suck. WORD

Bring the two hand wonders on , bring it !

There are a ton of stupid habits in tree work.

My bet that most of us succumb to our backs and joints rather than our chainsaws. Poor ergonomics is practiced far more than anything else dumb or stupid.

Not advocating one handing. Time and place.

Just stating that one gets you today, the other tomorrow so to speak. We worry about today.
