That staining wasn't wedges... I never really had a chance to use them on this tree, my guess is the one on the left is a start of a ring shake, and the other on the right is some baby pini...I'm guessing that having it fall to the right (or left, maybe) was a very bad thing you wanted to avoid. I'd call it a success.
Am I seeing a dark smudge from a wedge on the back cut?

It's a baby hemlock... Primary goals with aiming to the right was not to mess up the alders in the back ground, or smash the rhodies in the foreground.I like it. Guessing you were trying to save the small fir with that hard right pinch. Playing your slice, so to speak. Success!
Oh wow, I love old iron! It should be hooked to a steam engine, but it’s still impressive. I didn’t know anyone was still running an old “steam” donkey like that anymore.Ok since I can tell you are all dying with curiosity... this machine predates 1930 as Ersted changed their name to hyster sometime around then..

Looks like a spot of root-disease affected tissue, where the fungi move through the roots, and come vertically up sections of the butt.I'm guessing that having it fall to the right (or left, maybe) was a very bad thing you wanted to avoid. I'd call it a success.

I had the same thought too, all other trees removed and standing didn’t show any signs.Looks like a spot of root-disease affected tissue, where the fungi move through the roots, and come vertically up sections of the butt.
