Ran over

Just read in the florida paper that a T/S owner ran over one of his employees and is now faceing many Criminal charges because he didnt have a drivers lic.. The man was between the back of the truck and the front of the chipper and the chipper got him /forum/images/graemlins/drinking.gif

Lordy, I almost did the same thing once. I hope the employee is gonna be OK.
ALWAYS do a vehicle walk-around and quick inspection! ALWAYS!

I've got a mental checklist ( should prolly be a physical one posted on the visor):

Before Moving Truck

Walk around completely
Check toolbox doors
Check for wheelchocks
Check trailer attatchment
Look underneath for tools and logs
Look on top for tools or debris
Check the boom strap
Make a LOUD announcement "Stand clear, I'm movin' tha truck"
Give two short horn blasts just before moving
Hopefully a coworker is considerate enough to give me the thumbs-up so I'm certain no one is between truck and trailer.

Here we are dealing with ropes and chainsaws and big hazard trees and some moron goes and runs over his employee. Damn shame.

Re: Here\'s the article

Damn Shame, this is one of the reasons the public thinks that treemen are less then professionals. This guy needs to go to jail!
Gives me something to talk about durring our safety meeting in the AM.

Re: Here\'s the article

Where is the dog owner's responsibility here? This one's one the dog owner. Who thinks, "Oh, I first better check beneath the truck to see if there might be a dog there?" Yet another example of irresponsible, careless dog owners. I have a dog, and that dog is never outside in the open unless I have him on a leash, my hand at the other end of the leash.

Re: Here\'s the article

What a sad story. Darn shame.

And what a crim rogue the boss is, has an alias name, no licence, been suspended 10 years ... bad ass written all over him, bin him!

But that is one hell of a bad blind spot to be hanging around ... you could do the walk around check but as you're getting in the trunk a worker could zip in there and chuck in that rake up or tool and WHAMMO!

Re: Here\'s the article

Damn shame is right, lock him up is right. These kind of story's are to prevalent in our industry. I here you florida guys are exploring licensing or do you already have one? you can't legislate all the bozo's out of the biz, but with some enforcement you could stop some, maybe that dude still be breath'in.

Re: Here\'s the article

Hey I'm not saying that boss isn't at fault - but let's just all be silently thankful it wasn't one of us driving...a friend of my Mom's backed her van over a neighbor's kid in her own driveway and killed him...how many times do each of us back out of our driveway without really checking??? just like a guy shouldn't be heaving logs into the back of a chip truck that's running...neither should a kid or dog or cat or kid's bicycle be behind a car, but you know sometimes they are..we all just have to slow down and be aware. Peace to that guy's family, all I've got to say.
