A DBY us a Double Bowline w/Yosemite Tie off.
A Bowline is a SheetBend made to self; to form an eye. The rearringemeant of forces in foldign the SheetBend back to self, makes the Bowline more secure; so that the weakness of less security in improper finish shows more readily in the SheetBend. But, the Bowline should be finished same, as has the same weakness if improperly maid. The bowline tail should finish inside the loop; for more security, that exactly mimicks the same recomendation in SheetBend.
The tail inside the eye, can get in the way, the fold back of the Yosemite tie off can clean this up/ leave eye open and clear; and increase security even more.
The Double / RoundTurn / or Mountaineering Bowline has 2 choke rings rather than 1. This gives even more security and also softens the bend in the Standing Part for more strength. The strategy must be well dressed, because the 2nd tier of pull afforded by the 2 rings, gives more leverage for spilling the lacing. Dressed well, it is tighter together to reduce some of the leverage, and tighter to reduce the needed freeplay to invert/spill. This works very well in our 1/2" lines; but not as well in thicker/stiffer lines.
Slip Knot Method is very quick and sure for lacing the DBY, and with some pull on Standing Part (even from weight of rope at height) helps to lightly pullthe arraingemeant into proper place at finish right after the slip knot is reeved by Bitters. Just before reeving Bitters, you can stop and lay the lacing aside or hang on hook to quickly finish later.
