questions about aspens

I found a side job for myself while on vacation in my friends hometown. Its a multi-stemed aspen that is about 50' tall. One of the codoms has grown in a tight space inbetween two other stems, and has slightly wraped around another. The homeowner wants it gone. Its a very quick and straight and forward job. I'm trying to find how big of a branch or go around the trunk for my TIP and the minamal size of trunk wood I should use for rigging medium sized wood. I have pitures and I will try and get them up soon for a bit clearer of an idea.

Treat it like cottonwood, if you have any experience with that. Been awhile since I've been up one, but pretty relatively light wood, will hold a hinge ok, but soft and snaps easy. I'd certainly use a larger TIP than I would on oak or maple, thats for sure!
