Prusik on SRT anchor

Hey ftwoodvt, good pic on that set up , looks like the one that I took in my back yard , I made that two years ago and has work great for me ...

later in SO-CAL

I just saw a vid on a baseline anchor by Tanglerwr. He uses an simple slip knot wrapped in a half hitch as a jamming safety knot that can't be pulled out accidentally.

I tried it and it's an excellent replacemnt for the doubled scaffold hitch, which took me a day-and-a-half to tie in my video. Way faster, delivers the same function, jamming against the large rings. Then I just shortened the prussik side of the OP loop and let the rings safety the 8-coil.

For many years I've used the slipped half hitch with a half hitch lock for tying off anchors. If I've tied it properly and 'set' everything it has never failed.

Its a knot that can be tied with paracord wearing gloves at minus 20f..and untied too! Using climbing rope is super easy!

As tie-off for a rope z-drag it is simple and gear-free. After tying down a load of brush or logs I want to know that it will hold until I get to the dump. When it came time to use it for a safety tie-off I had already seen it's proof and trial under heavy, shifting loads for many years.

Thanks for the post, Tom. I'm glad to hear it's a trustworthy knot. I'm sure Tanglerwr didn't invent it but I saw it there and BOY it's cut my setup time in half!

TomD steered me to trunk wraps a long time ago.

If pressed to use a ground-anchor/lowering system; the classic video below shows a "lowering system" {2:13-6:20} that has to be the most efficient (simple, no hardware) and intuitive enough for anyone to use except for the most cerebrally challenged.

I suppose a Prusik could be applied if desired but, IMO, it would just complicate Graeme's beautifully simple system.

Jack, this is why this forum is pure gold Thanks for showing me that.

Lots of great info. And it is a pleasure just to watch McMahon handle his gear.

I sure didn't want to sound like I was taking anything away from Ron or Graeme. This is another example of the monkeys at typewriters. All of us are banging away...in time we'll have a masterpiece!
