Prusik Cinching up Tight

Never asked but I am bored. Does anyones footlock prusik tighten up so bad when you sit back on it that it is hard to advance? I dont always put all my weight on it.

Didnt mean that i was fat, i use the red prusik cord from wesspur that sean tait put together. it only wraps twice. it is a 3/8 cord. i have also used a cord double fished to a carabiner.

Ideally the prussik is there for fall prevention, you are not supposed to sit down on it. If you watch the guys who are really good at it, they do not rest on the hitch. If you have to, then rest on a foot-lock.\

Or do what us fat-old guys do, use ascenders or a Wraptor.

One thing I always say is work smarter instead of harder. Never tried ascenders, thought about it, always spent my $ on something else. Thanks

you need to 'break' the knot before it will slide easily again. The peice of rope that goes over the entire knot push that with your thumb to loosen it, and it should move freely again.

Petzl's ascentree is great for footlocking double rope. Just put a tether to your saddle and your good to go.

Hope that's not your only means of securement! One of those cams gets bumped open and down ya go!

Nah When I had my ascentree I used a grzzly spliced footlocking prussic above it. Now that I sold my ascentree, I just use the prussic. I just don rest on it, I wait til I get above a limb to rest.

What prusik configuration are you using? Have you tried a Klemheist?

I have tried the klemheist still tightens up. i usually dont get to footlock to far before i sit back on it to clear suckers or a limb. so i know i am setting it really tight.

Sanborn is right, prussiks are meant to cinch when loaded thats the purpose of the knot. I know what you mean some trees don't provide a clear path so you have to stop to make one, stopping on your lock or busting through the mess to the first limb are the alternitive to a cinched up knot.
