Prescription Safety Glasses

Anyone feel like weighing in on what they use and why? Pros/cons?
I'm a bit frustrated with how many I've had and how few I've liked.
Thanks for any input.

a friend of mine had Uvek Bandits fitted with script lenses. They looked just goonie enough for me to flame him about it. Can you just find your favorite safety specs and have them fitted? I'll be coming back to this thread soon as I need to see an optomitrist myself.

Contacts for me, all the time. Have tried Rx safety glasses but never liked them. Been mentioned before but should be able to get some quality safety/sunglasses with your Rx in them.

I wear Rx safety glasses 4 days of the week, contacts and Bugz the other two days of work. I prefer the Bugz/contacts combo, and if they were Z87 rated, would use them every day of the week.

The Rx glasses I got are the second pair of the same frames from WalMart. Third pair overall I've owned - the first pair was from an independent optometrist, and they were bulky and stupid, as well as crazy expensive.

The Walmart frames look fine, aren't overly huge, were under $100, and have lasted over three years now.

Have you check out the site rxsafety. They have some cool looking stuff. I just ordered a couple pairs. I'll let you know how it goes.

I use "overglasses". They are safety glasses that fit over your regular glasses. Most of the over glasses are big and make you look like you are a 80 year old man driving a sedan on a Sunday afternoon. But if you look hard enough you can find some that don't look terrible. I tell myself that it's about safety while at work, not fashion.

For the past couple of years I have been using ESS safety products and have been very pleased. Six months ago I got these http://www.esseyepro.com/Suppressor_detail.html

The flat earpieces are much more comfortable with hearing protection than anything I have used previously.

I have these http://www.esseyepro.com/Crossbow-U-Rx-Insert_191_detail.html for my scripts. I like the ability to switch them in and out and they do not get scratched since they are behind the safety glasses.

The downside is with the insert in they sit close to my face and fogging can be an issue. All in all I do not notice them when I need them, but they can be cumbersome when I do not need them.

I really like the quality, fit and customer service of ESS and recommend them freely.

Winch, these are the ones that I use too and they are fine. Most of the time I use my contacts with Stihl Timbersport safety glasses or my Bugz.

By the way a few years ago I got together with TCIA and we tried once again to get the Bugz passed through the ANSI Z87, but no dice. It did not pass.

Do you prefer a particular model? I had a pair of overglasses that fit great, but they were non-ansi. Ray Charles for sure.

I use contacts and then I wear different color shade(they tend to change the lighting intensity) safety glasses.

When the lenses get scratch the money lost isn't as much as it would be with prescrition lenses

I tried the Wiley X prescription safety glasses and they look really cool, but did not work with my prescription -2.50. The tight wrap of the frame which is required if you want to look good in them and keep the sawdust out prevented a corrective lens from working. I had the lenses checked by the company once and replaced by a local company again with the same results. The Wiley's completely messed with my depth perception and I felt like I was standing in a tube when wearing them.

I now use daily contact lenses (one time use) and throw them away at the end of the day. With contacts I can use regular safety glasses with no problem.

Check your prescription to see if it is compatible with the style frame you want to buy.

I'll put my Wiley's on the treebay page in a day or two if you want to try them. I forget what the frame costs, but they weren't cheap.
