PNW TCC

Here's Bryce Landsrud and the great banner, who didn't have to be the main organizer this year, as he usually is. Credit Zeb Haney and Tom Otto for a great event.

Eli after the 50' footlock, which was held in a large douglas fir. The first branch was at 85 feet, so the old Velocity line had a fair bit of bounce:

The speed climb was held in a 132 foot sequoia, and went up at least 105 feet! Eli won that in 1:12, by 0.3 seconds. Not sure who won the work climb...

Chris, all the way at the bell. love the silhouette, and limb shape. He's tied in at least 35-40 feet beyond the edge of the photo! A fall would have been no fun at all.

Eli, setting his line after that awesome 80 foot throw to a tiny target.

And, our lone woman entrant, Kathy:

redirecting her line in the next two shots.

the winner was eli kunzman, by less than 20 points with chris watson nudged out of the victory by the 20 point master's penalty for not retracting all gear w/in time limit. both did very good master's climbs - eli on the "old school" end and chris on the srt access more gear intensive end. i chose to judge the master's instead of climbing.

thanks to tom and zeb and bryce, and all volunteers for putting on this first-time regional event.

Looks like a great time all around. Looks like Zeb was true to his word on his plans for the speed climb. I wish I could have been there even just for that one event but alas life gets in the way. Hopefully see some of the same faces up at the BC Regional in July.

Great pics Roger! A huge thank you to all who volunteered, competed, and just attended. Zeb really did a great job putting this together at the last minute.

Cheers

Tom

Yo, John!

Yup, some enhancing to compensate for the overcast skies and backlight..which necessitates overexposing the overall image.

I use Picasa and/or ACDSee for quick, painless editing... PS is too much to learn.....

The shots with LG1H in the name were with my Canon 1D Markll, the "IMG" ones with my prosumer little Canon, a discontinued Pro1 model...both are 8 mp....but the little fella is a stretch to use in difficult action environment. I forgot to charge the big cam battery...and my off brand spare is worthless and was at home....so had to quit using the big gun halfway thru...then it came back to life for 5-6 frames during the MC.....

John, I saw your request a while back for ITCC photos...Sorry, but I was so busy after Hawaii, that I never edited the shots....I just started to work on them this weekend...and will put up a couple of the best ones...some of Mark and Beddes are pretty danged good....and if you still need some, lemme hear, ya heahhhhh!!

I got some pics that Scott of 4 Seasons Tree Care shot...they're on the slide show....and below.

In order, they are:

Eli, chillin' with his winnin's
The old geezers, Oxman and moi...
Marty in the AR event
Luke, about to walk the big doug fir limb out to the AR dummy
Chris W, Kathy Holzer's climber, on his smooth climb

Those didn't embed, go to Butch's site, or wait till I get home from work to fix....

Neville Fay will be giving a lecture in this park later this month.

Glen Wilson, derigging that fir after the footlock event. Glen pruned the tree, when it was pretty wild, the day before. He also did the setup & derig of the Masters course Quercus garryana (Oregon White Oak) tree.

Glen is a NATS instructor, and works at Louisiana State University, in Baton Rouge. No wonder the good t-shirts showed up.

Glen brought his son Bowie out, who also served as a judge in the Aerial Rescue event, to help out the Pacific Northwest Chapter ISA. Event co-chair Zeb Haney, of Tacoma, is also on the NATS instructor roster.

I'm in Boise attending our annual training conference. Our TCC was yesterday.

Lots of great climbing...

The MC was won by Scott Nyuli from BC, followed closely by Richard Kenyon, an Aussie. He's working for Vernon of Buena Vista out of Corvallis (I think) Richard placed 10th in the St Louis ITCC. Third was don Chamberlain, a Kiwi now living and working in BC, followed by Gareth Tudor-Jones, who had trouble getting a line set in the 110 foot by 120 foot crown spread burr oak. Gareth represented our chapter in St Louis.

Today, at Field Day, Dan Kraus put on an excellent speed line demo, on a declining silver maple. And Tom Dunlap demo'd his slick SRT methods and gear.

As I get time, I'll post some of the several hundred photos that I shot.

I put a few on Old Monkey's puter, who is graciously hosting me for the conference. Currently digesting an awesome dinner, which included home grown squash and tomatos from their garden! Yumm!
