pick up dump box

I agree countryboy, you can't buy a lot for a grand these days. Another way to think of it would be the savings. Rather than taking a full size chip truck, it would let you run around with a small truck. Small pruning jobs usually don't require the big guns.

To be realistic, chip trucks are often overshadowed by the ariel lifts (bucket trucks, lifts, cranes and Kbooms).

I doubt there is much mark up in that box, but I haven't seen the underside of it. We use an electric over hydraulic chip box that fits in a 1 ton box. It holds most of the chip-able size stuff form a decent sized poplar.

I'm looking in to it John, I may fly out to Vegas for a spring get a way with my wife, and some friends, the factory is close by, they said they'd bring one up so we could look it over.

If I like it I'll buy it in a heart beat.

IMHO it is a waste of time. I think that it is a neat idea, but how much can u really fit in a pickup bed? Not that much. But once again it is a neat concept.

This may be a waste of time for a company that has all of the gear...for myself, I do a lot of trim and small to medium scale jobs. I don't have the funds to have more than one truck as this isn't evem my primary souce of income.

Getting a truck with a dump box leads to all sorts of costs that are not worth it FOR ME to make. Worse fuel economy, more maintenance, and insurance are just of few expenses I can't pay. This could be the answer baby!

Jim, do your best to investigate this one and report back in bold as soon as you have scoped it out! How much to ship it to MN? Closest dealer etc.

Great Find!

It looks flimsy to me. What is it made of, plastic? If it is plastic, I have tried plastic wheelbarrels for tree work and they didn't hold up. I would expect the same result from that dump bed. Aluminum would work and would also be light.

I like the idea, and I think anything that is invented to make our work easier deserves consideration. BB, it can't be plastic, can it??? Looks like lightweight metal to me.

The one issue I see with it is popping the tailgate with a full load. Could be messy with all the material getting in underneath the dumper, not to mention difficult/dangerous with a bunch of heavy material leaning on the gate as you try to remove it. I still think it's cool, though.

What Trim jobs of a tree of any size at all could u fit in that freakin dump box? Also for a grand it cant be very sturdy, not to mention it is just to small. Anyone who does tree work will be very disappointed with that IMO. To me and my operation, a total waste of time.

So Derrick, you would take the 5 ton truck and an 18 inch chipper to prune 2 ft off 3 crab-apple trees? Yup I know these are small pruning jobs, they aren't BIG money makers either, BUT they still have to be done. AND there are a lot of small trees too, probably MORE small trees than large in the big metropolitan cites.

LOL I guess coming from Oklahoma , ya always gotta go BIG or stay home!

Flash, I do smaller scale pruning jobs and I also do hedge trimming as well. It might not suit most folks but would probably do me pretty good... For now.

Also I deliver firewood here and there so it could be useful for that as well.

For larger outfits..... don't waste your money. Get a electric dump and call it a day and just call the insurance and have em add it onto your commercial insurance. For folks like me, check with your local DMV and ask to see if you have to register your truck comercially if you have this dump truck. I have a feeling you won't have to

Derrick-

I routinely put $1200 worth of tree work by product in a small EZ Dumper set up like this (mine isn't a dualie):

I undertsand that it's small, but there's a tool for every application and vice-versa.

Well Tom dont misunderstand my post, Ur dump has biult up sides and can be chipped n2. I believe u can do 1200 woth of work in you truck. But my operation started out with my 1/2 ton z71, climbing gear and a saw and I remember many a day dumping limbs, dead wood and suckers 4 or 5 times from one mid size oak tree.

Treedim and Family, it is not like our work is made up of bradford and crabapples, so yeah, we do those kind of jobs in between bigger jobs, or we land a job where there are 15 to 20 of those and we do it n a day with our topkick and a chipper. But if all u do is sidework, or "ornamental" trees than I already stated that it is a neat concept. Just not for me.

Here's one drawback to the dump box. If I were to buy one I would want taller sides and an end gate, that could add a lot of weight if you have to pick it up by hand.

Hadn't thought about the lack of heighth in the end gate. If you look at the website they do make them custom. Looks like some have higher side walls and one has a roll down tarp. If you placed a piece of cut the size Plywood in front of the tail gate that you would pull out before dumping you could then chip higher. We do that with our chip truck. Just place it in when the chips start reaching the tail gate and the chips hold it in place. Once going to dump remove the tail gate let the plywood fall out and throw it to the side or pull the plywood out first then drop the tail gate. Either way you will leave a little mess from pilled chips but it would enable you to chip more.

Just a suggestion. I don't feel like i explained it well its rather easy. We do it with everyload to max out our smaller chip truck.
