Petzl Visor Question?

I am looking at getting one of these visors for my vertex. I have the original vertex and not the vertex 2, so the visor is not truly set up for this helmet. On Treestuff's website, under "Ask an expert" it says that the original vertex can be modified but is not recommended.

Has anyone done this mod? Is it just simply drilling two holes or something else that I am overlooking?

I looked into those, but thought against it, being bulky and could get scratched and ruined quickly, therefore being costly.
I have messed about with different concepts, but went back to my protective sun shades, cheap industrial type, which are only a few dollars

I honestly don't think I'll mind it even being scratched up. Fog is a different story. And it appears quite low profile instead of bulky to me...
I'm using the muffs and mesh facesheild from Husqvarana's helmet and it works well, but I don't like the muffs. I can't hear anything at all when I have them on and they have a lot of pressure. This might be good for bucking up big wood or being at the chipper, but the majority of my work is climbing, so they haven't been working for me.
I guess I'll shoot Nick an email if no one has tried this modification

It's light enough not to be troublesome on cloudy days and it's a lifesaver on super sunny ones. the only problem I have is when it's raining, the water beads up and then you can't see I've been thinking about rainex on it to see if it makes a difference

I use rain-x antifog on my safety glasses and it works well 90% of the time. That combined with my halo skullcap and I have almost no issues at all with sweat and fog even in superhumid Georgia.

I use them. I'd have to guess that I've gone through 3-4 in the past 2-3 years. The first ones were clear, now I am wearing the smoked one. It seems to be lasting longer, but I also have a face screen which fits over it. That helps quite a bit. I hate wearing safety glasses with a passion so this doubles up, keeps the visor more scratch/pitch free

I wouldn't go though the effort of drilling the old style hat.. It could work just fine, but the screw that holds it on goes through the adjustment knob housing area. Seems like a lot of effort for something that may or may not work.

Standard ear defenders IMO, are not good quality, I swap mine for 3M peltor's, I use different ones for climbing and chipper work, the best thing about the build quality and slick design is that they are hardly noticeable on the helmet. Remember we only get one set of ears from birth and they cannot repair themselves.

So, are you saying that you've found a great pair of hearing protectors that you are somehow able to permanently attach to your Petzl climbing helmet?

If so, would it be too much to ask for a link to the product and a photo that shows how and where you've attached the hearing protection to the helmet? I'd like to have the setup you describe, I just don't know what I need and how to do it. Thanks in advance for any help you choose to provide with this.

The code is P3, for the helmet attachment fitting type

Wow, tuttle, thanks for all of the help! It is greatly appreciated! Great photos; I really appreciate your effort in taking all of them and posting them here on the forum for all to see.

I just can't thank you enough.

I have the smoke vizor on my petzl vertex helmet. I have the newer one so it I can't speak to the mod but the vizir rocks! I wear glasses under it so if it's gloomy I just wear clear glasses and it has never bothered me. It did scratch up quickly but that doesn't really bother me, I tend to only slide it down when I'm cutting. I really like that it is smaller than the traditional mesh screens because when its in storage position it doesn't hang off the helmet at all, it sits real nice.

I don't know about that, but it makes sense, unless you always have the visor down. Like others on here, I tend to flip mine down when I'm making cuts and then flip it back up the rest of the time. I have prescription (progressive lens) safety glasses that I wear at work, they're more of the sports goggle type that wrap around close to your face. Good at keeping the chips out of your eyes, which the visor helps with but doesn't entirely prevent. I got clear lenses in them, because I have a smoke tinted visor.

If the visor has the Z87 rating on it additional eye protection is not required.

However, JeffGu is correct. It must be down! By regs and good sense eye pro should be worn pretty much from when you get out of the truck till you get back in to go home on a production tree job.
