Petzl sequoia

We ordered a Sequoia and a TreeFlex for a newguy to try. They were both barely out of the box before the decision was made to send them back. Neither look like they could take production work.

I like how you guys make knee-jerk decisions like that.

No looking back.

Hey, Morice and I are thinking about swinging through KY on the way to St. Louis......

A samurai must make his decisions quickly and never hesitate there after, until his task is complete.

My next thing is an espresso machine in the foremen's room.

Did you even try em' on?

I didn't know Rick was into cougars. I would imagine that Rick is fairly rough on his harness, he seems like the type that pushes his gear. I would like to know how well they hold up too wear. One issue with any new harness is it's ability to hold up to "normal" use, abuse.

Now that I've been actually getting into the trees for a change I've put my sequoia through its paces.

While there might be something better out there, or soon to come, I'd be hard pressed now to even think about changing from the sequoia.

Light, yet solid, plenty of attachment points both for climbing and gear,it doesn't shift around once you have it on and it is so comfortable that you soon forget it is on.

If there were some way to quickly remove the gear from the saddle you probably could even wear it around the jobsite with little notice!

About the only deficit I have noticed is that as a "sit" harness it tends to get a bit uncomfortable. This may be due to needing a different adjustment or simply my center of balance is a bit off. However, my lead climber says the same thing. In fact, if he needs to be suspended for any lenght of time he'll use his Vario.

Anyone use the Sequoia suspended from a crane yet? I'd be curious on your take of that.

I havent had any problems with sitting in it for long periods. Did a removal on Thursday with spurs, and Ive never moved up a spar that fast on spikes before! Very comfy when leaning back on my buckstrap, no digging in or chafing. I was very pleased with how it handled my trim saw too. I hang my saw lanyard on the rear carabiner slot, and clip it in short on whichever side i am cutting on, and had no pressure points or saddle sliding down my hips. overall, extremely pleased with the saddle, already trying to convince my friend to buy one of his own!! If anyone from Petzl reads this, KUDOS!!!

I've been using mine everyday since April. Removals, crane work, pruning. I love it. Lightweight, durable (sp far) versatile and comfortable. I was climbing on a versatile deluxe so the switch to legstraps was a bit of a change but once i dialed in the settings and broke it in a bit, it is great.

Had a saw-snatcher yank my limbing saw recently and take it to the ground. My lanyard was attached to a carritool on my sequoia.

Snapped the carritool but no noticable problems with the saddle.

Biggest thing I noticed was that the saddle didn't shift unlike my older saddles.

May have been a function of the carritool failing...

I'm looking closer at this harness now, close to purchasing one. A few questions though - with the SRT model, how do you adjust the waist if there's no buckle there? And is there a shoulder harness to attach to the harness without using a croll? i.e. a la Glide for heavy saws that you put a dorsal attach on? I don't use a croll for SRT, but like a shoulder harness for extra support sometimes. If not, I'm looking at the Ddrt version.

Jeff_r,

I have been climbing in the petzl srt with the shoulder straps, w/o the croll attachment for about 8 months or so now. The straps are great for carrying a large saw, however the straps are not fall arrest.
That really is my only complaint about the saddle, is that i can not use it out of the bucket truck because the shoulder straps are not fall arrest.
It took me a few weeks to get used to climbing with this type of saddle, and at the beginning i too was worried about durability. I know it's only been 8 months but so far its great.
I would recommend giving yourself a full month of climbing on it to really fully adjust the saddle to your liking. There are a few adjustments with the bridge and leg straps that can really make a great difference in the comfort of the saddle.

My overall rating of this saddle is high. I have tried many before my petzl srt and this one beats them all out. Again everyone is different. curious to see how long this saddle lasts. Right now i can see it lasting 3 years no problem IF YOU TAKE CARE of it. Thats with everyday climbing, production climbing.

There is not a quick release buckle (which the DRT has).

The SRT has two (2) "loop-back-thru" (belt type) buckles; one on either side of the center attachment point.

Therefore, you has to "step-thru" to put it on. Then cinch up one side; and then the other.

Ditto that...I liked it from the beginning but took me about 6 weeks to decide if I made the right choice...mostly because I kept looking for a reason not to like it.

Durability does seem to be a question because it is so lightly constructed. The materials seem much better than the old Vario and both my climber and I have vario's over 10 years old still going strong. In fact they are our back up saddles. I've owned others and have sold them when done but have kept the petzles.

I think that the Sequoia will be a good longterm surprise to many climbers.

I really want to like this saddle but every time I try it on it never feels quite right. I adjust the leg loops tight and have the rings adjusted all the way close but it still never feels like the back pad is providing any support until I lean way back. Has anyone else experienced this? The guy who's harness I tried also experienced the same problem.

Mine feels like it supports better below my lower back, kinda like the tf is supposed to.
