Loading wood with the grain, in compression, will always be much stronger than any load applied laterally.

Rule carries across even wider to stone, marble etc.

I just referenced Kevin's original posted Petzl information today or yesterday. Deja Vue all over again!

Can't believe it's been that long since the 200% myth was busted.

And of course its not good sense to anchor way out on a limb. Always by the trunk unless its a secondary system is my rule. If I saw someone putting in a climb line like the drawing I'd say " You missed your throw, better try again."
