Patin problem?

Does anyone have a problem with their Patin foot ascender sliding up their leg? I don’t know if there is a piece that fell off like a rubber band or if it is woven through the wrong way. I have tried tying a not to the bottom strap so it doesn’t slip, but it still doesn’t feel Wright.
I’ll bring it home tonight and take picture

I use my Pantin all day long and never have any problem with slipping. I always ascend using SRT and then work with my doubled line running through a CMI pulley off my Petzl Ascentree ascender, which stays attched to my SRT line. I'll footlock the tail using the Pantin as necessary.

Set the Pantin and ankle strap just below the ankle bone in the little groove above your mid-arch. Cinch it down tight and you should be good to go!

It is woven through the wrong way, I think. You also have to slide the excess part of the bottom strap back into the scuff protector thingy.

Exactly...I had one that did the same thing and somehow it got woven in wrong...I looked back at the instructions and put it the right way....no problems at all now...still dont know how it got mixed up in the first place

I had a climber walk up to me at the Providence ITCC with a brand-new just out of the bag Pantin. He was having problems keeping it tight on his foot. The bottom arch strap was installed wrong, I guess at the factory. I ran the tail of the strap back through the protective sleeve on the strap and he was good to go. I wrap some vinyl tape at the bend in the tail of strap where it comes out of the buckle and it never loosens. Just another way to solve, same effect as putting some stitches in as mentioned by Gerry.

How do you atach pics to the chat ? Just took some pics of my patin and would like to show you guys how its woven through.
moss when you have some time could you send me a pic of how you set your patin up?
thanks

I had the same problem with mine. I just adjusted it to my boot and sewed it in place. works very well. and you could always take out the stitching if you needed too.

here is my patin. is this foot arch strap woven through the wrong way? This is how i have had it set up, but i send the strap through the sleve and it still slips loose. where should i tape the strap?

Ya need to get an account (free) at place like http://www.flickr.com to host your images, once you upload the photo to flickr (they'll automatically resize it for you) you paste the image URL into your Buzz post using the Image link in the "UBB" box below where you type in your message.

Otherwise send the photo to me andrew@natureclimber.com and I'll post it for you.

You're welcome, here are photos of my setup. I put on a new tape wrap so you could see before and after, I've climbed on it two years with no slip since the first time I wrapped it:

My pantin slips as well, but mine slips from the other side, never had an issue with where you're putting your tape. Seems to me that the grip just isnt there on the pantin itself? I lost my slip cover for the strap when it came undone in a tree. Started over with a safety pin through the straps and some electrical tape around that. this has been working so far.

Moss,
Thanks for sending me those pics. By looking at those pics I could see that my patin strap was woven in the wrong way as well. The way it was set up the strap would be on the bottom side of the sleeve. I have set mine up like your with tape on the end, I can’t wait to try it out! Hey lets set up a rec climb in about three weeks from now. Ct , or Mass

You could probably find some tubular webbing to replace the sleeve if you wanted.

As far as I can tell there are 3 possible slip points:

1. The strap under the foot, putting a few stitches in or taping the way I showed solves it. Locking it on the right side with tape solves slipping for the whole arch strap left or right side.

2. The tensioning buckle for the strap that goes over the top of your foot, I never had a problem with it loosening.

3. The Pantin sliding forward or backwards on the horizontal/side strap, has never happened on mine.
