no helmet at all, even smarter. Also like the no slack tender really puts you in a league of your own.

Jomo, aren't you in San Diego or something? That shirt seems a little warm for summertime. Great shots. Looks like a dog of a tree to work on.

Yeah Adkpk, I'm in SD. East county on this job.

Heat can suck the energy right out of an old dog like me. I started this job wearing my helmetcam and did alright until all the brush was gone. But after noon temps climbed, shade was gone, and I was overheating when the helmet came off so I could stay in the tree and zip some high spar down until the fourth zip unhinged the dance floor.

Looking out for my own well being when working in extreme weather and environs has worked well for me for some time now.

I'm sure there are those that go by the book until they pass out and need an ambulance to cart their heroic butts to an ER, but I ain't one of em.

I wear Hickory work shirts from Madsens Saw&Supply, 100% cotton, zip front, long sleeved, and love them. Though on hot days I need 2-3 of them to work a full day. Nothing grosser than crawling back into a salt encrusted saw dusted shirt after lunch!

You want a PC version of PPE on this job?

There are plenty of ways to stay cool and hydrated these days.

Top down---

White helmet
Halo do-rag with the 'gutter' under the forehead band to direct the sweat away
Wearing anything but a thin helmet liner under a hardhat/helmet isn't safe. The extra material of baseball caps and boonie hats [like in the stump shot] disrupts the inner support system of the helmet. Look at the button that's at the apex of some 'ball caps...do you want that pounded into your skull?
Moisture wicking fabrics for shirts...light colors. The use of synthetic fibers is nothing new. Their use goes back decades. There's a well-worn saying about cotton:

Cotton cools- [in cool temps...which can lead to hypothermia...synthetics cool better in hot temps

Cotton kills- [hypothermia from too much heat loss when its cool]

Carry a 2 liter minimum Camelback-type water bladder...filled too!
Sythetic, wicking pants and undies

Do as you choose though.

That's why I remove them from every cap I buy Tom!

I know tough guys can man their way through extreme temps without gettin dizzy and overheated in 100 degree plus weather while performing strategic removals.

But I'm just an old orthopedically challenged old school wussy, deal with it, since I'm not recommending it to anyone else.

J...read and quote the whole thing...taking words out of context to make your point isn't a good conversational technique.

"The extra material of baseball caps and boonie hats [like in the stump shot] disrupts the inner support system of the helmet."

Helmet suspension systems are designed to disperse impact loads to a wide area and reduce point loads. Anything but a thin, form fitting, liner changes the designed support.

Do as you want, I'm clarifying a mistake for climbers who want to protect their heads.

Thank God you didn't have a cast on your foot!

Great thread Jomoco!

The distractors sure are hell bent on de-railing this thread. Something about fine tree work must be eatin' 'em up.

so.............you must be doing something right!
