Pantin

[ QUOTE ]
Mine's about 5 years old and it doesnt loosen up.
It used to kick out easily until I adjusted it to fit directly under the ball of my ankle.
Maybe the nylon straps need replacing.

I'm gonna try that Chip :)

I have a pantin that is a first generation. It still works well. I've made changes to the webbing

If the stirrup webbing loosens all you have to do is tuck the tail back Under itself where it goes through the two slots. Easier to see than describe of course.

The rope kickout can be solved by proper placement and technique. Keep your toe level or down just a few degrees. If your toe points up as you lift a tiny bight of rope forms and it shoehorns itself off. Keeping the place where the rope exits from the pantin just below and behind the knob of your ankle bone keeps the roPe fair as your legs lift.

If you're ascending srt weight the tail of the rope. I have a 12 oz throwbag with a shoelace loop that I girth hitch to the rope. This is enough weight to make the p self tail but not so heavy that it pulls the rope out of the cam. When I get up to my work position I yard up the rope and put the throwbag on my saddle. Having it along to lob my lanyard or rope doubles it's usefullness.

I don't care for the cmi. It is clunky and interferes with climbing. I haven't used the Stein but it looks better. The Pantin is one of the most useful pieces of hear that I use

Has anyone tried these? They look real light and low profile. I hate endorseing Kong but in reality I think they have the most versatile ascender on the market with the futura hand ascender and I presume the futura foot would be good as well. I dont tie into ascenders so they could be made of plastic for all I care.

Another plus of the CMI is it can handle rope up to 16 mm.
I havent tried climbing on rope that size, but it sure would be
easy on the hands.

I've been using a screw link in my climbing line splice, choked around my TIP.
I just have an old line tied to the link for retrieval. Are there any issues
I should look out for? Appart from making sure the link is screwed tight.

I took my stuff to a gear shop today and had heavy duty velcro added. I'll post on the results. Even just the increase in thiskness of the webbing from the velcro should help.

i got a lt. & rt. pantin. that i've had for some time. one or the other gets used almost daily. if you take the tail and tuck it back under the ascender it should stay put. once in a while it'll pop out but when i notice i just put it back. when or if you get the hang of it, being able to kick out when you want comes in pretty handy.
