What happened to Keith, the incident and the aftermath (including this thread) wieghs on my mind frequently.
We all approach it the best we can.
Even those who don't seem to be doing their best....
One of the biggest lessons that I've gleaned from Keith's situation.... is that we're all on a journey.
Uniquely ours.
No one is helping him face his daily new reality.
He's doing it himself. And a damned fine job he's doing.
A similar accident can happen to each one of us.
We're not different or bullet proof.
No one is...
This online forum allows a discussion to take place that would otherwise never occur. Good or bad...I am thankful for all the posters...even the ones that I don't agree with.
How many other 'broken' climbers are out there in obscurity?
We seem to forget all the other men and women who've lost their livelyhoods (or lives) and suffered through life altering accidents.....
For myself, I'll continue to focus on being the best I can be. Not allowing standards of excellence slip. Learning all I can...at a speed I can successfully absorb.
Honing communication, listening, patience, caring and consideration...
And sharing my "skills" with everyone I come in contact with. That's what MAKES me a professional arborist.
At least that's the part I'm proudest of.
We owe it to each other to care for and watch out for everyone.
Thanks Ty,Em,Chris and Riggs (and everyone else) for reminding me what's important.
Thanks to Keith for having the courage and desire to help others....by posting.
And thank SZ for.... well... whatever it his special talent is called these days....
No matter what your opinion... Climb and work safe.
Yours in trees,
Mark
