Thank you so much everyone for your great thoughts and interesting experiences...
I am on the best (two/three man) crew now and still quite new to the work. I only have two years experience. Been working my whole life for modest hourly pay with nothing to show for it (except in some cases, like tree work, priceless training and experience). I also keep another job (more of a people job).
Eventually, I think I would like to do as much tree work (pruning, limbs, small removals), on the side, as can be accomplished with a pick-up truck. I'm sure working alone would take much longer, especially when confronted with snags, and getting everything cut down would take more time, more chains, more fuel, more trips. I figure I could still be affordable by not having the equipment (?), and I could work at my own pace (more slowly than anyone would ever pay me to work!)
If I end up with nothing to show for it, well, i'm used to that.
