Ok so got called for a white pine on a cottage insurance job on Georgian Bay.... Only a 40 min boat ride

But this was it ! Homeowners boat, mines out for the winter

Devon, where'd you get the great shot of the CCGS Samuel Risley? We see her "on our side of the pond" frequently, especially coming down the St. Clair and Detroit Rivers. (I grew up watching the lakers and ice breakers plying their trade as we were lakefront on Erie in Ohio.)

Worked on something similar today on water access property near Mactier, Devon, which involved about 15 white pine sheared off or uprooted. Some of them had their root plates extending underneath the cottage and boathouse decks, and when the trees went over, interesting things happened!
Structural engineer and adjuster were around for a couple of hours taking measurements and making calculations....a relative or friend of the cottage owner was also present, and he mentioned that the solar panel system on the boathouse roof is >$35,000, with a power cable running underneath the rootplate of one of the toppled pines. He insisted we do not let the stump settle back down...."just have a guy with a water pump wash all the rocks & dirt off, so you can cut it up into smaller pieces". Like, just snap your fingers, and presto, a stump weighing a couple of tons will magically disappear!

Ha ha yeah like that's gonna happen eh? The carnage is so wide spread. We've done jobs from midland up to Parry Sound and over to near Rama, there's weeks and weeks of work just from this storm alone! I'm only doing insurance work as we are booking into January and beyond

Yeah we have steady storm work it seems, I've been doing insurance work for 10 years now, and it's pretty steady ! Today's job we went in blind not seeing it ahead of time, 99% of the cottagers have pulled their boats out of the water including me, 40 min boat ride was a gamble also as the water on Georgian Bay can get wild in a short period of time ! But today all went well!

That was the first thing I noticed. It looks like it just pealed off the rock.

I must admit I am jealous. That is a beautiful place to work and fish and chips is a fave. Keep the pics coming.

Nope and most of the white pines along Georgian Bay in this area are like that. It's amazing how some can grow up to 100' in conditions like that.

Stacked it and the home owners going to burn it up. That's basically the only option on island or water access work, unless it's a big job some customers will pay to barge the small chipper across

It's amazing that so many cottage owners are content (or oblivious) to have 75' 0r taller white pine lightening rods right beside their cottage, growing on top of bedrock with minimal possible root anchorage.

Most think that huge taproot busts it's way down through the rock, then of course turns and makes its way through every waterline and foundation wall in the area. LOL

At least I got down to Expo for two days. Heading back early tomorrow to get back at it.

We're going to have to get together for some aerial rescue practice if we ever get a break.
