Notch Gecko question?

I’m planning on getting a new set of geckos but I’m not sure which ones I should get. What’s best option for weight, price, and longevity? Steel, aluminum or carbon fibre? Do the DMM shanks make a difference? And I climb a lot of softer trees (white pine,poplar,basswood) sometimes red oak and maple. Are the tree gaffs shorter like a hybrid or should I just get pole gaffs?
 
I have a set of aluminum geckos. Not dmm. I wear tree gaffs and I feel they work well but I’ve been told I need to try pole gaffs so I may be trying to get some. I wouldn’t buy the notch ones because I’ve had mixed quality with notch brand. I like a few things they make but the majority I hated
 
I have the DMM's. I can't answer your questions as to comparison but I have no complaints about comfort.

I had to make an aluminum shim to fit the powerscenders to them, if that is a consideration.

Are all geckos not the same? I thought it was just a different logo?
 
I wear a pair of carbon fiber Geckos, and have found them to be comfortable and incredibly lightweight. I haven’t had mine long, but one of our contract climbers has been using his for years, every day, and still loves them.
 
The tree spikes have never been in a tree on my DMM geckos. I got them and a pair of euros, and they are pretty short and bite really nicely.
Unless you're spiking nasty pulpy dead pine or some giant conifers, I would go short.
Even mature (36"+ dbh) pines don't have thick enough bark to make it an issue.

There are the carbon fiber geckos, the Dmm geckos, and the original geckos. They are all very similar.
The notch geckos are completely different, different pads, shanks, and shin piece.
I’m not saying they’re good or bad, just my personal opinion of notch is pretty low.

Yea I have their sentential harness... it’s hard on the family jewels... need to save for a treemotion evo!

Yea, I’m 6’5 with a small waist and broad shoulders... most harnesses pinch in the man parts and on the hips... the lanyard clip in points on the evo might resolve my problems!
 
I have been using the aluminum geckos for a few years now. I couldn't get comfortable on their tree gaffs (coming from climbrights with their updated gaff profile, which are great imo) but the pole gaffs have been good for almost everything. Working out the big diameter wood on certain species isn't the best but once you're in the thinner bark they really shine.
