Purely anecdotal, but when I was working in LA last year, after the fires, there were heavy equipment crews everywhere. Most were running Ford F550 if they had that size category of truck in the fleet. I had the opportunity to talk to a heavy equipment field mechanic for a while, and I was asking him about trucks because I was in the market for a new chip truck. The conversation centered around 5500s/F550 size trucks, and he said whatever you do, stay away from the Chevys. Ford or Ram was his vote. I ended up with a 2015 F550 Power Stroke and it's been fine for my use case. It seems like the newest generation of Duramax 2500 & 3500 are fraught with problems.
