Not getting any calls

Location
CA
I can't stand this. This is really weird for this time of year. Everything is ready to go including climbers and ground workers. Can't feel nothing but guilty right now.

It must be your area. My phone and email started going off the week before the heat wave and haven't stopped since. It was dead as hell before that though.

Consistency would make this job a lot easier.

That's what I'll do. If they don't want any work done, I can probably get good reviews from them for previous work.

What state do you work in? This is odd to me. We are booked for 6 to 8 weeks and only calling back past customers and referrals. Often 4 days after their message. I think america is sick of crappy work. Just like junk made in China. Either put out quality work, our go down. This economy has made us very busy. Or..... is it just my area? Plenty of tree services dying in my area though.... I hear.

Same here, I am booking into the first week of September now and the calls, emails etc. still keep coming in! I don't want to get any bigger (company wise) I just tell my customers we will put you on our list and get to you soon as we can and give them a weeks notice. Lot's of the hacking lowballers that I saw around before are no where to be found. This year has been great work wise. Landing lots of big jobs that the hacks just can't do, and the addition of my new grinder has been a help to. Landing a lot more jobs then some of the other tree services around me that don't have a grinder. We can do it all, and that's what people are looking for.

we have been steady here but not breaking any records . this same time last year i had 40 people on my list waiting for us to come do there work . weird ?? i talked to other tree guys here and they all say the same thing a couple have gone under !!!!!!

Some of us have been blessed with storm damage and the echo of it. Like Paul has said get on the phone and ring up your existing clients. If they liked your work ask them to refer you to their friends. I'm not big on offering anything for it since most will without any sort of incentive. Obviously you can always show some appreciation if the referral amounts to something significant. Start calling up property managers and condo corps. Stop by gardening centers and talk up landscapers that you feel you could work with. Watch for recently sold homes that look like they could use some tree love and speak to the realtor. See if they know what the new owners intentions are.

Marketing and sales is tough work specially when the economy is slow. But without it you starve and the work that does come to you is often highly competitive and thus low margin.

good luck!

That's a different kind of marketing than I'm used to. Sounds like good, good stuff. I'll look into all of this, and see what happens. Thanks

This is California. This place come with it's own set of pre-established explanations, eh. lol Such as business problems. I'm not from here, but the issues here are interesting to say the least.

I'm booked out a month. Been that way since June. No shortage of work, especially with a few tree services quitting. Just started two full timers and got a super sweet bucket truck finally.

For me it is simply a matter of advertisement. Spend $1k in the local paper min return of $10k more like $30+ right now. Stopped advertising last few weeks, no real slow down in calls, I need a call manager so I can work more.

The way I see it as long as the trees keep growing so will I.
