Non Protective climbing pants

Just looking to try something different I've been wearing the Arborwear Canopy pants for a while. Before that It was stretch airs and just what ever I could find at REI.
Just curious if anyone has tryed the newer Pfanners, or the work zone version, also the SIPS ? I use Gladiator protective pants when doing removals and don't really care for them to much.

I wear arborwear ascenders and SIP progress. They're both very similar as far as construction. The fit is different though. The arborwears fit more loosely and the SIPs have much narrower legs. I'm kind of a fatty so I like the fit of the arborwear ascenders better. If I were leaner, I'd probably prefer the SIPs.

I bought the new pfanner pants and love em. I still feel weird for spending that much on pants but i won a Super Bowl bet so I splurged a little. I like the fact that they stretch in the back but durable with the gladiator front. Seem like a good work pant vs just a climbing pant.

Sip's and Pfanner's are both worth the money seeing they last forever. Pfanner's come in lengths and widths where Sip's only come in small med large, long or short lengths. If I was a tall boy I think the Sips are more comfortable but the Phanners lengths fit my legs better. But they're pretty much made out of the same stuff.

The only reason I replaced my sips(in four years) was a hole I burnt in them this winter with a red hot steel fragment from grinding. I still wear them to work but they won't do going out to dinner.

The great thing about these pants is you never notice you have them on. They stretch in every direction. The other great thing is protection from wind.

Also, no back pocket in the pfanners, sips offer one. Wallet goes in the cargo pocket in front.

And he does wear his Pfanners to dinner....

Pfanners and the Francitals but mine are all chainsaw protective. I don't feel comfortable climbing without them. No matter the weather.

Unless I know in advance I won't be touching a chainsaw, I'm wearing chainsaw pants. If not I have an assload of arbor wear tech pants I got on sale over the years.

How are the francitals TH? They any thinner than the pfanners?

They're holding up well. Lighter than the Pfanners and stretchy. In cold weather I've worn long johns under them so they are warm enough. With Pfanners that was rare. For the price, they're my go to pants.

One of my goals for loosing weight was to get into a pair of climbing pants. The only ones that I can fit into are the Sips which I love. It PO's me a bit that Arborwear doesn't and won't have their pants made in bigger sizes. The stretch in the climbing pant would be appreciated by any ground worker too. I have spoken with Bill Weber of Arborwear about producing these in larger sizes without a lot of success. Hope he reads this and we have more supersized tree people post up. I'm not too thrilled about having to pay the price of Sips when AW pants of similiar construction are significantly less expensive and of equal quality.

I loved the sips progression pants when I had them. They are a tad warm though compared to the marmot pants that Odis Sisk and Luke over at Treestuff got me into. Unfortunately the name escapes me currently but I will be pulling them out shortly for the warmer months (yes. They are thin enough that I can't wear them in the winter. They are the only pants I have that have this particular limitation)

The pfanner non protective climbing pants are about the best non chainsaw protective pant you can get for climbing. If you are strictly wearing these (90 + % of the time) in the tree, they are the way to go. Treestuff has them in the super cool green, which makes them even cooler.image.webp

Pfanner has some of the worst sizing available amoung tree gear providers although it seems arborwear offers many sizes but for the life of me I can't get the same fit out of their 32x32

What do you mean by "bigger sizes"? I'm a big guy by tree climber standards and I wear arborwear pants.

Chewbacca, I can walk into just about any mens clothing store, even walmart and easily pick waist sizes up to 42. It's a little harder to find the 34 length I need. Arborwear stops waist sizes at 38 for the canopy and ascender pants. Sip is the only climbing pant available for my waist size. At $240 a pop now from Sherrill, it is a bit disconcerting that Arborwear won't at least survey the industry to see if they could provide larger sizes in these pants. As I said, I have spoken with Bill Weber at TCIA hoping to convince him to give it a try. He produces th Canopy Jacket up to 3XL for us large framed folks. Heck, I would even encourage ground workers to wear these type of pant because of the way they stretch when you move.

Biggest problem I have is length, I need 36". Arborwear is great because I can get 34"X36" most chainsaw pants at 30" or 33" are like "tree capri's". My long length Pfanner Gladiators (35" inseam) are a bit short. and my Pfanner Climber chainsaw pants (special order +14) took 2 years to get cause Pfanner dont care to deal with the U.S. UL rating bull- .....otherwise they are awesome
