NO KONG GEAR AT TCC'S!!!!!

Wow. You're comparing mainlining heorion to Kong products and my logic doesn't make sense? No worries though man really. I just don't agree with a ban. To say that one person doesn't want to use a particular brand is fine. But to force all people from using them is ridiculous. Thats all.

It seems like you don't know the whole story. Read up.

Re: NO KONG GEAR AT TCC\'S!!!!!

Of course I don't know the whole story. That's why I said I speak from only my experience. In fact unless I was there, I wouldn't claim to know anything about that incident. I do know someone got hurt while using a Kong product and Kong won't pay. Do they normally? If I cut myself with chainsaw am I gonna ask Stihl to compensate? NO! And I'm not going to say that everyone should quit using Stihls either. I'm done fussing about nothing. See u guys at comp.

Re: NO KONG GEAR AT TCC\'S!!!!!

If you cut yourself with a chainsaw, that's your fault and you probably weren't using it properly.

When this ring failed, it was being used properly, safely and it still broke.

In fact, if you read anything at all, you would have realized that kong screwed up the batches and shipped SHOWER CURTIN RINGS INSTEAD OF LIFE SUPPORT GEAR!

Your done "fussing" because you couldn't be more wrong. Enjoy your Kong gear and I truely hope that you don't find out the hard way about their inferior quality. Stay safe

Re: NO KONG GEAR AT TCC\'S!!!!!

I was standing right there when the ring failed. It was being used properly and safely but I could set my watch by something like this happening.

Re: NO KONG GEAR AT TCC\'S!!!!!

quite honestly i don't care what happened. IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW THE THING FAILED! The point is that just because that equipment failed (and Kong won't pay) doesn't mean that you can choose what goes in my bag at a climbing competition. I've been competing as long as you've been climbing and stuff like this happens every so often and u know what... nothing comes of it. People move on and learn and get on with life.

Re: NO KONG GEAR AT TCC\'S!!!!!

If Kong really did say that their gear is not intended for a TCC, then I'd say the Head Tech has the ability to say you can't use that gear at a TCC. You can have it in your bag, just has to stay there perhaps. Its reasonable to assume that ITCC doesn't want to assume the liability of allowing gear, that the manufacturer has stated is unfit for a TCC.

Re: NO KONG GEAR AT TCC\'S!!!!!

ineresting...the first thing I was asked by several people was how it failed. So it does matter how it failed. The first thing Kong wanted to know was how it failed because that would be the very foundation of their defense. Should a TCC or chapter shoulder the responsibility of inferior gear and it's potential failure? And pardon the hair-splitting but is "unfit for a TCC" different from "not it's intended purpose"? I'd be interested in the wording. Many of us are called upon to do gear inspections at TCCs and I have to admitt that now when I encounter KONG gear I feel to get a second opinion. What do we do? Maybe we should keep the discussion going but please keep it constructive.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that in Kong's response letter to Jay, "not intended for competition use". It would be absolutely reasonable for a Head Tech not to allow Kong gear at a TCC.

You don't care what happened? Really? Is that because it didn't happen to you? It doesn't matter that the ring failed while being used properly? Interesting. I wonder what would happen if Kong felt the same way, and Sherrill and all of the other mail orders that did their best to recall these highly dangerous rings for our safety felt the same. I Guarantee you that much worse would have happened. This isn't the first time Kong has produced a inferior product. Years ago it happened, then twice this time around.

We can't decide what gear goes in your bag. Climb on Kong recalled rings all day, but I feel the second you step into a TCC ring then you can be and should be told exactly what you shall and shall not use

Re: NO KONG GEAR AT TCC\'S!!!!!

No I don't care how it happened! I am sorry that it happened, but how it happened is not important. How long ago was it now? At some point you all will have to let go no matter if Kong pays or not.

I know that I'm competent enough to choose my own gear. Of course a judge can decide what I can and can't use, but a ban on a single brand is still ridiculous.

This is exactly why I hardly ever get on treebuzz. Some people want everyone else to see everything their way. When it will never be that way ever. Opposing views will always exist. Its how you debate about them that determines whether or not anything ever gets solved.

Its obvious that my opinion differs from yours. Arguing about it will never change it.

Re: NO KONG GEAR AT TCC\'S!!!!!

Okay. Here's the deal. I am making "Kong Kills" long sleeve tshirts to be worn at the tcia convention coming up. I am selling them AT COST. I don't make a dime. Should fall well within the 20$ and below range and I'll talk with my graphics designer over at justdera.com to see if we can make it interesting "I'm a sucker for odd print locations."

Another deal. The first 10 people to post a video on YouTube of you destroying Kong gear will get a free tshirt courtesy of Powell Family Tree Care. Just pm me a link to the video and what size shirt you want.

I will be bringing these shirts to the Tcia show with me where I will collect money and dish out the shirts. If you want a shirt and won't be at the show I am more than willing to ship, but you will be in charge of the shipping fees

Thanks guys and remember. I love you

Re: NO KONG GEAR AT TCC\'S!!!!!

As far as I know (and correct me if I'm wrong) the Kentucky TCC was the first event to explicitly ban ALL Kong gear from being used during the event. This was discussed by Norm and myself and the determination was made that the risk was not something that the Kentucky Arborist Association was comfortable in taking.

Eat it Kong.

Re: NO KONG GEAR AT TCC\'S!!!!!

What i would like to see come from all of this, is Kong owning up for some of there faults. Although they have greatly hurt themself, i'm still impressed with there ingenuity with products and would like to see them allowed at competitions again. The latter will have to mean either a retraction of there previous statement (about not being intended for competition use) or upping the quality and safety of there gear. I still think they have something to contribute to our industry.

I don't want to see everyone just hating on Kong, but pushing them to better their company and equipment. Let the goals be positive and not just destructive, that really won't help either of us!

Re: NO KONG GEAR AT TCC\'S!!!!!

yeah I agree Derrick. I kinda feel sorry for the guys at Kong right now, endearingly incompentent italians.
