Newtribe Onyx vs Sherrill Edge saddles

I have been weighting options on a harness. My first thought has been the Buckingham Rebellion. Though more than I had planned to spend. I took a visual liking the the New Tribe Onyx and the Sherrill (Buckingham) Edge. Any and all info on those two would be great. Thank you

I own them both and enjoy them both and they both have features I like that the other does not have.
Onyx...light comfortable great if you plan to sit in it more than stand in it.
Edge, light comfortable great if you plan to stand in it more than sit in it.

The greatest thing about both of these is the rope bridge with rigging paws!!!!!!!
I will post two vids, one of the Onyx with adjustable bridge and the other with the edge with adjustable bridge.
Ohhh, and the Edge is a better choice when you want to hang a chainsaw on the side.

Thank you for the videos. My planned use is for small removals while using climbers. This is not my profession. Just something I like to do on weekends so also a part time thing. If all that makes a difference? Thanks again

Thank to for sharing your thoughts and video. I have sat in a new tribe years ago And it was really comfortable. The Edge might seem to be more WORK worthy??? I will definitely have a saw on me. Not a big one but a saw. If I need a big saw I can always rope it up.

I have an Onyx and do over 90% removals with saws ranging up to a 395 hanging from the side and have no complaints. I will agree though that sitting is when the Onyx really shines

I just put my order in for an Onyx saddle and some accessories. I sat in a New Tribe years ago and remember how comfortable it was. I expect the Onyx to be even better? Thanks everyone for your help.

I sat in a Onyx at the store, granted I did not really take any time to adjust it, but it pinched. Is this normal and can it be adjusted out? I'm 6' ~ 165 and a 31" waist.

That's an adjustment issues. There should be no pinching at all. Leg straps should be totally loose while standing. The come from NT with the ass straps all cinched down. You got to play with it a bit to get it dialed.

My Onyx arrived today. I set a rope up just in my basement to play around with the fit. Still trying to get it as comfortable as possible. Feel I am not able to sit up as much as I want to yet. Will play around with it more tomorrow. It is quite comfortable. Thats considering it really has no padding. Again though it is quite comfortable and I dont even have it fully fit.

That would be great. Anyone find the rope bridge short? When suspended. The paws obviously come closer together but everything seems to be very close to my body? Was thinking of getting a longer rope so I can move the paws each back more and have slack in rope? Any help on that good bad would be great. Thanks

You could make an adjustable rope bridge. That way you can tune the length to your preference while you're in the tree. If I'm not mistaken, you can find it under Tips and Tricks. In the set up I'm using, thanks to Yoyoman, a length of rope runs through a Roll n Lock pulley attached to one paw, through that paw and the one opposite and then the termination knot. So you can keep your attachment in close or extended as you like.

Great stuff on this thread... I've been looking at the Onyx and now it keeps looking better. Really good stuff, all the experimentation with the rope bridge configurations to expand its usefulness to different climbing techniques and styles. Without any nearby brick and mortar suppliers, I have to rely very heavily on the arborist sites and these forums, since I can't try anything out unless I find a local climber with something I haven't tried. That's only happened once, with regard to the saddles.

Personally, id have gone with the onyx just to not buy something from sherrill, but thats for another thread i think, lol.

At any rate, ive been eyeing the onyx since the spring, so im interested to hear how it works out for you. Please keep us updated!
