New Tribe Onyx harness arrived and was put to good use doing storm damage work this past week. It is quick to adjust and the comfort while working is outstanding. My sequoia and butterfly are now hanging in the garage. Great job New Tribe !
 
The Onyx is very light, and New Tribes leg straps give you the comfort of a bosons seat. This is the by far the most comfortable saddle I have worked in. And no I am not paid, in fact I paid $400.38 for the pleasure.
 
I drove the Onyx with a rope bridge around the tree today. It is very light and very comfortable, everybody is going to say that because it is. Enough connections but not like the Edge.
If I am taking a pruning saw or a camera I'll take the Onyx for sure, if I'm taking a chainsaw (standing more) I'll take the Edge. The Onyx has buckles just like the Edge, the paw is a little different, holes are different shape and a little larger. Could use a lanyard snap for a second connection point. So on the plate you have two available holes, one for the rope bridge and the other for..........

One more interesting note, they use a heaving knot (like an external Stevedore) at the bridge rather than a double overhand.
 
Just talked to the folks at NT today, great people from what I can tell over the phone. Ordered some throwline and an Aero back/butt strap for my Oynx. I want a little more padding for long sits while bow hunting.
 
Can anyone comment on how this saddle handles large saws (say 440 and larger) for long periods of time? I'm done with my petzl never holding any adjustments.
 
I don't know Mac. It only comes in black so I might find it pointless but I thought I would give it a try. I reads about the same as Classic Slickline 3mm, which I prefer.

NT Blackline is nylon and has a lot of stretch. I've use it as a stealthy line to leave in the tree for later climbs but never as a throwline.

I've had a 395 hang from it no problem and could hang a 562 from it all day. If you're using really big saws consistently for long periods you may want a beefier harness with shoulder straps like the Buckingham. However, the sacrifice is a heavier, less mobile saddle. The onyx is the best all around saddle out there if you want something that can handle everything.

I would like to hear that comparison too, maybe throw the MCRS in there also. I have only rode NT saddles but I did try on the MCRS while at TS, and it seemed really comfortable.

Whoops, missed this one.

I do prefer it. I have had it since last summer. I borrowed a TM for a couple months prior to getting the onyx, and just couldn't get it adjusted to where I liked it. The adjusters are what turned me off. They are a bitch to manipulate. Onyx is a freaking dreamboat
