Not paid here, daily residential tree owner/operator. I used to cinch limbs like you say above, though I used pallet forks. The BMG is a lot faster and easier. Branch butts don't have to be perfectly aligned, and only have to be close when feeding into a chipper.

When rigging the brush gets lowered into appropriate sized piles, and orientated properly (no different than if dragging by hand...just larger)

BMG is just so much more versatile then other grapples out there. Multiple videos of our mini, with a BMG, at work on our YouTube pages.

Yawn....seen the vids....clam grapples are the best. You went from running a pallet fork to a BMG...

No reason to attack, or make it personal. I'm firmly believe that everyone should try the different types of grapples (and mini skids btw), and then only buy what suits their style the best. For you, a clam grapple may be best. For me it is the BMG. Others it is the Vermeer grapple, or the Ryan's.

Though I do believe I could beat you on a obstacle course (residential job) with taking non stacked brush to and through the chipper. Or doing the same with long wood into a trailer.

obviously for guys like and including treevet.
Right? He totally sold himself on them, and that's ok.
Maybe he does not posess the smooth operator skills required to sublety influence the grapple to make it be like, it ain't but a thang. So we counter cause we thinks he's got mad mini skid skills like us. I seen those guys flopping the grapple around like a limp wrist t-rex, just messy. It's ok! That said, I do plan on buying a clam or root/rock grapple real soon. Hey maybe I'll change my tune. Done it before.

Toro weighs 2790 lbs empty
Tips at 3,071 lbs
Goes 4.7 mph
Flows aux at 15.2 gpm

Vermeer weighs 2880 lbs empty
Tips at 2145 lbs
Goes 4.5 mph
Flows aux at 13.5 gpm

It's really the vertical lift that set's it apart. If the toro can lift it off the ground, it's on. Most loaders radius up and out, causing the machine to be more prone to tipping as you raise.

I would agree the Toro 1000 is better than the Vermeer 725tx. It is more comparable to the Vermeer 800tx (to be apples to apples, width and lift weight wise). The 800tx lifts 4" higher.

If you listen around that Vermeer breaks down a LOT. You are 0 for 2 son.

These things are important purchases in a small tree service and you need to get it right the first time. NO small co. is going to use both grapples. So you sell the BMG like I did after you "get it".

You buy the Vermeer mini and you are hand loading logs while your mini is being cycled in at the repair shop after they fix all the high dollah machines.

The BMG is not very masculine either....I totally agree frashdog. Buy a Dingo grapple and crash into a big honker with your TX1000 and man up damn it!

4 years and over 1,100 hours on my vermeer 650tx. I have no major complaints. My dealership always treated me right (only one major repair..hydraulic pump separated from engine).

Treevet, do you feed your chipper with your clam grapple? I feel like that is where the bmg really shines! I have a clam on my full sized trac loader and am considering getting a bmg hd for that one too. For my operation a bmg works much better than a clam.

I think that may be an advantage but very seldom tc262. Again you have to contrive a perfect pile of brush to get the small opening of the grapple to grab. I can just take a rope with a snap, lace it around a 15' or more wide pile of brush, lash it to the grapple on the ground, raise it and off I go cinching it up while moving. What is the opening on your BMG? 40" to my 15' wide grab....then you can still set it on the chute apron.

Not sure we are comparing apples to apples here with a 35hp machine that even weighs more now.

Still no comparison with even their bigger machine.
I bought a mini to lift stuff
the toro tx1000 tips at 3,071 lbs
The Vermeer 800tx tips at 2,400 lbs and does not vertically lift...

If your cinching up brush in a 15' area, without pre consolidating it, then your brush will be several feet away from your grapple when you start dragging (or your getting off the machine again to tighten things up) . You won't be lifting the butts off the ground much. Once you get to the chipper you will then have to sort it out to feed it in. I don't see any time savings there.

If limbs are small I pre stack by hand...if large I grab multiple limbs and stack it up with the mini. Before gripping to drag to the chipper, the piles are about 48" in diameter. Once I get to the chipper it goes right through directly swung in and chipped (no multiple grabs).

I don't wait til I have a huge pile of brush, when a large limb comes down it gets carried off and chipped right away.

I think we would all really like to see an unedited video showing just how amazingly efficient this process is. Do you think you could make that happen? Climbhightree has been kind enough to produce videos for you showing his BMG skills.

Pretty sure you instigated but I will try to get one together next time the need for dragging with the Dingo comes up. But maybe you could answer the question as I sold mine so long ago....What is the widest opening for grabbing a pile of brush on your BMG? Simple question. Don't try and Snellorize me either.

All that really matters is bmg opens way bigger then the throat on your chipper.

The most efficient way to move/drag a big long limb or pile of long brush is by the butts, which is the parts we stuff into the chipper first.

I imagine if grapple opening is so important to you, you must be grabbing the piles in the middle? Then what? Do you actually feed your chipper with your dingo?

Trying to understand, I also have to imagine you don't stack neat piles. Probably you just plow/push and grab till you got a load then you fight with the mess at the chipper?

Kinda funny we are all debating how to be more efficient at work.

Fastest clean up I've ever seen was a job where I just had to get the trees down. Five good sized white pines. I'm laughing as I am making a holy mess I would never want to be part of. The guy cleaning up shows up with a 16' flat bed trailer and tractor with forks. He just plowed everything towards the trailer and piled it up on the trailer with a rope under it that he tied the load down with.
