New to splicing!

I've done several eye splices on Poison Ivy and Lava, but now thinking I would like to try some i2i splices for hitches. OP would be my choice and here is where the dumb question is - the first eye is easy when there is a lot of extra rope to work with - whats the trick for the second eye? Hopefully you get what I'm trying to say! Thanks in advance!

Measure it all out and then cut the cord to length. when you go to push back the cover to mark out 1, 2, and 3 uses a pair of spring clamps to keep the cover bunched up so you can work and not have to hold it. I think thats really the only thing i do differently than regular splices on an eye and eye.

Well, here is my creation! Thanks for the info and ideas, it made it much easier. I went with 10mm OP for the main section and 8mm OP for the pulley hitch. Both of them spliced much easier than the other ropes I have worked with. After stitching them I used some shrink tape to seal/protect the stiches. Overall, this turned out way better than I thought!!

I agree - and if you see any similarities to the one you made it's purely a coincidence!

It was supposed to be retrieved with the brass hook - seding the eye through the rig with a retrieval ball on the end.
Tried it out today and loved the way it moved, had it set up as a retrievable anchor point for the M-technique. Everything was soooo smooth, UNTIL I went to retrive. I don't know if the eye is a shade small or what? Retrieve was impossible, after 10 minutes of trying I gave up and had another rope sent up to climb up and get it. Tried it when I was on the ground and still wouldnt release Tried it with a cocoon pulley and still nothing!!

Back to the drawing board....

Take on extra wrap with the prussik to keep it as short as possible. That might help with retrieval. Also, a continuous loop retrieves better than a splice in each eye of the pinto.
