New to forum, new to climbing

Hello everyone, and thank you all for taking time to pass on your knowledge and opinions here...been reading pages of past threads, bout a dozen... Anyway, been thinking new saddle, wondering if tree motion should be my next... Don't climb fulltime but whenever I can... Currently weaver w/ floating double dees and leg loops and running ddrt...Not sure if I should take that big a step in a saddle...maybe something better than current for my adventures with srt. Thanks again for any input, positive or negative

For me, saddle is the hardest one... went through a bunch that really didn't work out so good. Body shape, proportions, etc. really make a difference on what works for you. If there's any way you can try before you buy, then do that. Just sitting in it while hanging, even if it's not quite the right size, will tell you a lot that the pictures and opinions can't tell you. The TreeMotion to me was odd, but comfy, but not any more so than some other saddles. I couldn't justify the price, and kept looking. The New Tribe saddles are comfy by nearly anyone's standards, but I couldn't make them work for me, no matter what I did.

So, if you know someone that has a TM, then definately ask them if you can sit in it on a rope and move around a bit. Any saddle, for that matter. They're all too expensive to waste a lot of money and not be happy with it. There's no place near me that I can try them out, but I think Oregon has some brick-and-mortar shops where you might be able to do this. I won't recommend any of them because my own experiences with saddles has been that the ones people rave about I didn't like so much, and some oddball ones I really like. How much of your height is torso and how much is legs seems to really affect how well a given saddle works for you... especially regarding balance point. For me, the New Tribes tried to force me onto my back, no matter how much I adjusted them. For my wife, the New Tribes were perfect. Unfortunately, I climb and she doesn't.

Good luck, and try them all out, if you get the chance. Finding the one that really feels right can be daunting, but makes all the difference in the world when it comes to how much enjoyment you have being in the trees.

...its just all those possible adjustments...

I think that's part of it's charm... fiddle with them enough and a sweet spot emerges. I won't badmouth a good product like this (well, except that whole plastic kiddie toy look of it) it just wasn't for me. But it seems to be the pride and joy of most of the folks that have them.

I preordered the rope saddle. Hope it will be a more or less lifetime investment, as all the load bearing elements can be replaced, and affordability.

Currently on a TM and love it, but it was seriously difficult to figure out where the adjustments needed to be for my body......and the factory suspenders are terrible (I have to have suspenders the very second that I hang a chainsaw on it, regardless of which saddle I use).

I'm with Jeff. Recommending a saddle is very tough

The New Tribe Onyx is working out really well for me, and I highly recommend their products and service. I had an issue with the leg pads pinching, so I called them and spoke with Casey who designed the saddle. He recommended and sent me a longer butt-strap, which arrived at my house in two days. That completely solved the problem. I had an older New Tribe Pro before, but the Onyx is way ahead in terms of comfort and work position, and the rope bridge is a huge improvement over that center delta. Whatever you decide to get, be prepared to take some time to get everything adjusted right for you. That can take a few climbs. And by the way, welcome to the forum!
