New Kask Plasma helmet

I had no problem sending my Kask back and having it replaced, although I would have been expecting the newer model. We'll see how this one holds up.

Blinky, the only way large companies can be held to honor they're warranties is by us returning defective products. If it is defective contact your supplier to request they replace it as per the warranty.

I no longer accept inferior products and return any product that doesn't live up to the standard the product is marketed at.

Boston will that muff attatchment clip fit the old helmets too?

Yes, and I BELIEVE they are sending them out free of charge when they are released in a month or two.

I've said all I need to say about my Kask.

If I send it back I either go without a hat or shell out at least $100 for a new one. Sending it and waiting isn't an option. That makes me not very interesting to gear sellers, I don't buy enough to have any influence.

If they REALLY want to honor their warranty, send the customer a replacement FIRST. I trusted them, why can't they trust me? Obviously no MBA type would ever dream of doing that, better to just ditch the lousy one-time buyer since more are lined up anyway. That's consumerism and I don't buy it.

I work for customers with whom I maintain a relationship... consumers are no different than cattle except they're LESS valuable.

Yes, the numbers game played by big co's is frustrating but, that's what those "MBA types" are hired to do. It really takes a frontline worker to champion your cause.

I had to deal with Petzl on a warranty issue with my Sequoia. I explained to them I couldn't do without my harness while the assessed the problem. Ended up them sending me a replacement charged to me then me shipping the defective one back at their expense to be evaluated. They did allow for the replacement under warranty and credit back my card. I didn't have to go without.

I still have my old Petzl Best as a fall back but I'm sure I could've worked the same deal with my Kask supplier to replace the helmet. That's where you can get the small business to act as your champion since they have much at stake when their clients have a bad experience with product they sold.

Do any of you who've tried these helmets have a big noggin? I wonder how they fit large heads; that's my biggest problem with Petzl helmets, I've got a pretty big head and most of the climbing helmets I've tried, Petzl, Pacific, Black Diamond— all squeeze uncomfortably. I still have to climb in a bigass husky forestry helmet because I can't find something that fits. Maybe they'll have the new ones in Savannah and I can take a look...

I don't know what size head I have...not as big as Scotty's I KNOW that!

I've worn the Kask helmet liner during some cool weather to see how it works. With the helmet liner the bands were at the largest adjustment. when I shared that point with Eugene he said that he is going to see if at least one more notch can be added to the headband.

With the rotating adjuster I think that big heads will be easier to accommodate.

I don't know what really dictates a big head but my co-worker has a "pretty" big head, and doesn't seem to have any problems with the kask fitting.

He also wears a winter hat underneath. Soooo, Im guessing it can fit a big head. Pics?....kidding

Don't mean to derail the current topic but I was wondering if anyone would like a mesh screen for the face shield but not like the huge logger ones. It would be the same cutout as the current eye shields.

I talked to some petzl guys about this in Pittsburgh and they seemed semi interested.

I just think it would be nice to have that extra protection and not worry about the scratch factor you got with those clear and smoke shields.

Then just flip it up when you don't need it...of course having safety glasses underneath.

I really could not get along with the plastic visor that came with the Kask. Got too dirty, too fast, very hard to clean in the tree and every time you bump your helmet you get nudged on the bridge of your nose or cheeks. I found this annoying.

The Peltor mesh shield, separated from all of the visor sealer stuff that comes with it, fits into the same attachment holes as the plastic visor by just enlarging the holes in the shield to the proper size. It is a really, tight fitting modification....and cheap. The shields run about $12.50 brand new.

I'll try to get pics tomorrow.

I haven't had an issue with the face shield. maybe I like the faceshield enough to tolerate the dirt or sweat for a while. To clean the face shield I keep a scrap of old t-shirt in a pocket. Every once in a while I spray on some anti fog to clean it up.

I have no doubt that the clear shields will have a following. But I'm not going to be one of them. For what I do, the mesh screen is more applicable.

First picture is the new Kask with factory plastic.

I like the the face shield. It took awhile to get use to but I really do like it. Wearing ear muffs without safety glasses gives me much better hearing protection.

I love this helmet, I've tried a lot of different ones and this is by far the best I've ever worn.

I'll report back if I can find something I don't like.

So no takers on the outlined mesh face shield? I just don't care for the full face mesh face shield. When it is up it is too large and gets caught on branches. That's why I would like a smaller one.

I would be willing to try a smaller one; but as you can see from this picture, when you remove the super structure, spring gizmos from the Peltor shield and screw it directly to the helmet, like the clear plastic, it follows the same arc. So it puts the shield almost 3 inches closer on top of the helmet. It does still stick out in front.

Another plus for a full shield, for me, is I do stump grinding also. Hard to get enough protection when you are doing that kind of work.
