New helmet questions

I've got an unfortunately large head. I got an Ecrin, it squeezes it and I look like Homer Simpson, I got a Vertex, same problem. They give me headaches. I think I'm gonna try a Pacific next. Any big heads out there with any suggestions?

Trees4est, one thing I've noticed with the Ecrin is that it is very round. My head is shaped like an oval. Hence, the ecrin (which I've used since 1999) would squish the front and back of my head, and not quite be touching on the sides. Now I store mine with a rubberband on it to pinch it in just a hair on the sides. No probs with head aches any more!

hi guys
like my friend Krapa I also use KONG SPIDER WORK
in my opinion is a good light helmet...plus have the XL size
from 58cm to 63cm..is pretty large...
the only thing that you have to note if you take is if it has red botton for open is for sport, if it has blue botton is for work...

Tom, I am open to being told I am wrong........but....when I was looking to get a new helmet I did alot of research because the OTCC comittee can get a little fiesty over helmets and I came across the CSA testing standards for helmets. It stated the Type 2 helmets HAD to have the chinstrap in place when being tested for compliance.

You won't get any arguements from me about the value of a chinstrap. Many years ago Dave Spencer said that "A helmet only does 40% of it's work if it doesn't have a chin strap" or something to that effect.

As far as I know, in order comply with the minimum requirements for a helmet in the US a chin strap isn't required. On one level I wouldn't mind seeing that in the ANSI Z133. But...the practical and realistic side would rather see everyone just plain wearing a helmet first. Maybe the next generation can get around to chin straps.

the husqvarna helmetI bought last year came with an elastic chin strap, its not real comfy but if the feet are off the ground, the strap should be used, so the story goes.....

I know Mark
Renè gives you by Matteo...I'have seen on the film of the championship!!!cool and proud for us!!
the only difference is the effort that something have to do for disattache the strap...for sport is more for work has to be less in case a little branch block on it don,t have to strangle you..
the weight and the standard of the helmet is the same
when I come in the us this summer i give you one...

I like the idea of chinstraps and the Petzel Vertex but the webbing gets in the way of the ear muffs (gets underneath the muffs) and lets in alot of noise compared to having the muffs flush against the skin....anybody have any ideas on that??? For me, muffs, like on a basic Peltor, are much preferred.

Cory,

You can adjust the V that the straps make on the side of your head. This moves the chin strap forward or back. You might be able to gain enough.

You bring up a good point about having a good seal. The bows from safety glasses can reduce the earmuff attenuation by close to 10%. Long hair and straps will do the same to some degree.
